Obituary of David Vance Ross

David Vance Ross, age 84, of New Franklin, Missouri, passed away Monday, March 27, 2017 at Harry S. Truman VA Hospital in Columbia, Missouri. David was born March 21, 1933 in Washington, Missouri. He was the son of George and Hilda E. (Meyer) Ross. David served his country proudly in the U.S. Army during the Korean War where he served as a communication specialist for the adjunct General. After his honorable discharge, he continued his education to pursue a teaching career. David taught fifth grade classes as well as English classes for several years in public schools. He eventually left teaching to start up his own construction company. He enjoyed the building process, working with his hands and was involved in everything from framing to electrical work. David thoroughly enjoyed the arts, including theater, opera and classical music. He also enjoyed spending time outdoors gardening and loved the lake and traveling. David was known to be a spiritual man, a devout Catholic, who prayed often and proclaimed his faith. He was a member of St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church in Washington, Missouri for many years, and after moving to New Franklin, he attended Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Boonville. David is survived by his daughter, Karen Ross and partner, Kathy Scott, of New Franklin, Missouri; his brother, Kenneth Ross and wife, Carolyn, of Washington, Missouri; his sisters, Karen Sida and husband, Donald "Bo", of Marthasville, Missouri and Doris Butler of Hartford, Illinois. Also surviving are his ex-wife, Micheale (Mickey) Ross; his close friend Dennis; along with several nieces, nephews and great nieces and great nephews, and his best pal, his dog, Lucky. He was preceded in death by his parents George and Hilda Ross; and his sister, Glenda Wunderlich. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, April 4, 2017 at 10:00 am at St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church in Washington, Missouri. Inurnment will be at St. Francis Borgia Cemetery. Memorial donations are suggested to St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church, Washington, Missouri or Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Boonville, Missouri.
