Roger Smith

Obituary of Roger L. Smith

Roger L. Smith, age 72, of Linn Creek, Missouri, passed away Saturday, April 29, 2017 at University of Missouri Hospital in Columbia, Missouri.

Roger was born December 16, 1944 in Hannibal, Missouri.  He was the son of Wilburn and Estelle (Morris) Smith.

On July 8, 1963 in Hannibal, Missouri, Roger was united in marriage to Teresa Hanks.  They shared over 53 years together as husband and wife at the time of his death.

Roger graduated from Camdenton High School with the class of 1963.  He was the first 4 year letterman at Camdenton High School, and held a long jump record at CHS for over 30 years.   After graduating,  Roger owned and operated Glaize Amoco in Osage Beach with his dad for over 20 years.  He also co- owned and operated 66 Fast Stop in Camdenton with his partner John Flory.

Roger enjoyed spending days golfing and fishing and loved traveling to other locations.  He was always in for a card game, especially the game of pitch, and loved watching the eagles and other birds from his home.  His greatest joy though, was spending time with his family.

Roger was a loving and devoted husband, a caring uncle, and a wonderful father, grandfather, and great-grandfather to his children and their families.  He was a kind man whose generosity to friends and family alike will be remembered for all time.  He will be sorely missed.

Roger is survived by his wife Teresa; his sons, Roger Smith and wife, Renee, of Gilberts, Illinois and Matthew Smith and wife, Amber, of Fayetteville, Arkansas; his daughter Kathy Smith and husband, David Jones of Columbia, Missouri; his mother, Estelle Galloway, of Camdenton, Missouri;  his sisters, Wilma Jean Leary of Blue Springs, Missouri and Jennie Lou Neeley of Camdenton, Missouri; seven grandchildren, Erin, Sarah, Castle, Ethan, Vivianne, Nathaniel, and Lydia; two great-grandchildren, Nicholas and Madelyn; along with eleven nieces and nephews, and a host of family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Wilburn Smith; his sister Connie Major; and one nephew.
