Obituary of Robert Herschel Vernon

Robert Herschel Vernon was born January 11, 1922 in Miller County, Missouri to Edgar Wilburn Robert and Grace Mae Clark Vernon. He grew up with two wonderful brothers, Harry, who preceded him in death, and Clark of Eldon, Missouri. He was married December 22, 1945 in Kansas City, Kansas to Helen Lucille Prewitt.  To this union was born a daughter, Karen Dianne, and a son, Richard Robert, who preceded him in death.  He was in the Army Air Corps during World War II from 1942 to 1946 serving in England, Germany and Japan. 

Robert, "Bob", had businesses in Eldon and Osage Beach during his life.  He worked and retired from railroad offices, in Kansas City, Missouri, before retiring to the lake area in 1970.  After retiring he and Helen bought and sold houses, which he enjoyed remodeling and was meticulous in his work. Robert loved music and played several different instruments throughout his life with the talent of being able to play each new attempt in short order.

Robert died Sunday, May 21st at his home in Osage Beach, Missouri with his wife by his side.  He leaves family, relatives and friends who were always greeted with a big smile even up to his last day. 

 Surviving Robert are wife Helen, brother Clark Vernon, daughter Karen Stith, son in law Fred Stith, daughter in law Debbie Rodden Vernon, grandchildren Jennifer Stith Bruns and spouse Brian, Eric Stith, and Barbara Smith and spouse Andy, two great-grandchildren Jaxon and Ava Bruns, nephew Kevin Vernon and spouse Debbie, niece Becky Miller and spouse Kim. 

Robert had a kind spirit and sweet nature which endeared him to all who knew him and he will be sadly missed. 

Graveside service will be held at 2:00 pm Wednesday, May 24, at Gott Cemetery, Rt C, Ulman, Missouri with Pastor Tim Smith officiating.
