Obituary of Lela Pauline Stanton

Lela Pauline "Polly" Stanton, age 96, of Lake Ozark, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, July 19, 2017.

Pauline was the daughter of Wesley and Desdia (Watts) Vaughan, born November 4, 1920 in Miller County, Missouri.

On June 21, 1940 in Oklahoma, Lela was united in marriage to Lon Stanton, who preceded her in death.

Pauline is survived by her son George Stanton and wife, Linda, of Lake Ozark, Missouri; her daughter Jane Herbert and husband, Mike, of Camdenton, Missouri; her brothers Gathiel Vaughan and wife, Delores of Boyd, Texas, Charles Vaughan and wife, Sharon, of Eldon, Missouri and Terry Vaughan and companion, Ann, of Fairfield, Illinois; her sisters, Mary Bailey and husband, Ben, of Tucson, Arizona, Norma Evans of Eldon, Missouri, and Joyce Hammond and husband, Joe, of Clear Water, Florida; eight grandchildren, Matthew Bentz, Amy Carson, Holly Nimmo, Jill Schaffer, Emily Carter, Andy Herbert, Elizabeth Veit, and Jonathan Stanton; and twenty-seven great grandchildren; along with a host of other relatives and friends.

Pauline was preceded in death by her parents, Wesley and Desdia Vaughan; her husband Lon; her daughter and son-in-law Betty and David Bentz; her brothers Henry, Cecil, Bob and Harold; her sister Neta Bunch; and two great-grandchildren, George Caleb, and Sophie.

Pauline and husband, Lon, owned and operated Stanton Novelty in Lake Ozark, Missouri for many years.  She was passionate about gardening and loved spending days outdoors tending her flowers.  She was a founding member of the Arrowhead Garden Club.  Aside from her love of gardening, Pauline enjoyed travelling and cooking, especially for family gatherings and was famous for hosting wonderful family dinners.  Pauline was very involved with her children and their school activities when they were growing up, including leading Cub Scouts and volunteering for the School of the Osage PTA organization. Pauline was a member of Lake Ozark Christian Church and was active with the C.W.F.

Pauline was a loving and devoted wife and helpmate to her husband Lon, and a wonderful, caring, nurturing mother, grandmother and great-grandmother to her children and their families.  She will be sorely missed.

Services will be held Saturday, July 22, 2017 at 1:00 pm at Lake Ozark Christian Church.  The family will receive friends for visitation from 11:00 am- 1:00 pm at the church.

Interment will follow services at Freedom Cemetery in Linn Creek, Missouri.
