Obituary of William Garrett Moulder

William Garrett Moulder, son of Benjamin Valentine Moulder and Mamie Catherine (Garrett) Moulder was born March 12, 1929, in Non-Such, Missouri.  He died on July 22, 2017 at Osage Beach Rehabilitation and Health Care Center, Osage Beach, Missouri.  Garrett was 88 years, four months, and 10 days.

On December 3, 1954, Garrett was united in Marriage to Edna Lee Scott. They were married in Tunica, Mississippi. Garret and Edna Lee raised three children. Saba Lea (Moulder) Weatherly, Garrett Scott Moulder, and Fred David Moulder.  In all their years of marriage, you would seldom see Garrett without Edna, or Edna without Garrett.

He was preceded in death by his parents (Ben and Mamie Moulder), his sister Muriel Howard, and brother Earl Moulder. 

Garrett is survived by his wife of 62 years, Edna Lee of the home, brother Gerald Moulder of Archie Mo, daughter Saba Lea Weatherly (and husband Chuck) of Parkville Mo, son Garrett Scott Moulder (and fiancé Angel Rader) of Conway Mo and son Fred David Moulder of Bennett Springs Mo, grandchildren Garrett Todd Moulder, Lindsey Elizabeth Moulder, Benjamin Ahrens  Moulder,  Alyssa Ann Weatherly, Alexander Reese Weatherly, Adam Scott Weatherly and several nieces and nephews as well as a host of other relatives and friends. 

Garrett was raised in Macks Creek and graduated from Macks Creek High School.  He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1950.  He served his country in the Korean War as a Forward Observer and fought in the Battle of the Chosin Reservoir.  This was a battle  in the Korean War, in which 30,000 troops (nicknamed the "Frozen Chosin" or "The Chosin Few") under the command of American General Douglas MacArthur faced approximately 120,000 Chinese troops. Surrounded by the Chinese and heavily outnumbered, 10,000 Marines battled their way to safety down 40 miles of winding mountain road in sub-arctic weather.  Garrett was so proud to be part of this Chosin Few to defend our country.   Later in his Korean tour he received a Purple Heart when he was wounded in July, 1951.  He was discharged from the Marines in October, 1953.  On one of his military leaves, he met Edna Lee Scott, and they started dating and later married in 1954.  Garrett went to work at Scott’s Clothing Store, a family owned business that he and Edna Lee ran for 43 years.  Garrett served  many years on the First National Bank Board of Directors.  Following retirement in 1997, Garrett became an avid gardener and enjoyed spending time at the Moulder family farm, Mineral Valley Farm, where he loved to hunt and fish.  Garrett was a very good cook, and especially loved making candy.  His fudge was a family favorite at Christmas time. Pampa Moulder was also known to make the “Best Biscuits and Gravy” and it was always expected by the grandkids they would have biscuits and gravy when they went to Pampa’s house. 

Garrett was a loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and was a caring neighbor and friend.  Garrett never met a stranger that he would not reminisce about the Korean War  and his family.  It warmed his heart when he was “thanked for being serving our Country.”  

Services will be held Thursday, July 27, 2017 at 12:00 noon at Hedges-Scott Funeral Home, Camdenton, Missouri.  The family will receive friends for visitation from 10:00 am-12:00pm prior to services at the funeral home.

Interment will follow at Hedges Cemetery, Camdenton.

In  lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Diabetes Research Institute or the Injured Marine Semper Fi Fund.
