Obituary of Floyd Edwin Cooper

Floyd Edwin Cooper of Lake Ozark, MO passed peacefully in his sleep on July 21, 2017 at Waterford Estates, Hazel Crest, IL at the age of 97.

Son of the late Raymond and Adelle Cooper, He was born on June 10, 1920 in Orland Park, IL where he resided for 67 years. Husband of the late Geraldine Cooper; nee Jackson for  44 years until her passing.

Loving Father of the late Theodore and Mark Cooper. Beloved Grandfather to Kimberly (Tony) Novak and Shelley (Jeff) Jordan. Great-Grandfather of Theresa, the late Alecia, and Frank Coglianese, Martez Walker, Taylor and Briana Novak and Brayden Jordan. Great-Great Grandfather of Giana Shepley. Brother of the Late Merrill Cooper. Uncle and dear friend too many.

At 13 years old he was one of a 100 selected to play in the marimba band at the World's Fair. An independent businessman throughout his life, he started his career as an entrepreneur by selling small appliances out of the trunk of his car. He then opened Cooper Electric Co., the first store in Orland Park to ever sell televisions. Although he had many business endeavors, he spent the majority of his life as a building contractor. He was the first builder to ever build apartments in Orland Park. His main business was  F. Cooper Builders. In 1956 he expanded to the Kankakee, IL area and built Cooper's Hillcrest Subdivision. In the early 70's he expanded further south and opened Port O' Call resort in Lake Ozark, MO. He fell in love with Lake Ozark and at that time it became his second residence.  In 1981 he built Cooper subdivision in Eldon, MO. He was a master mason, member of the Scottish Rite Valley of Chicago and member of Lake of the Ozarks Shrine Club.

Floyd loved living on the lake and was often heard saying, "just another beautiful day in Lake of the Ozarks". He enjoyed traveling the world, boating, water skiing, and most importantly spending time with family and friends. He was an honest businessman, a loyal friend and went above and beyond to provide and care for his family. His thoughtfulness and generosity was extended to everyone he knew  yet he remained humble and spared much expense when it came to himself. Duct tape or spray paint could fix anything! He could definitely be described as quite the character. He lived as he died, he did it his way!

Memorial Visitation August 1, 2017 from 5-6pm at Faith United Methodist Church 15101 S. 80th Ave, Orland Park, IL. Mass 6-7pm. Interment of ashes Orland Memorial Cemetery, 153rd & West Ave following. Special thanks to Holt Funeral Home, Harvey, IL.
