Obituary of Larry Dale Hawkins

Larry Dale Hawkins, age 78, of Cocoa, Florida formerly of Brumley, Missouri passed away Wednesday August 30, 2017 at his home in Cocoa.

Larry was born January 6, 1939 in Brumley, Missouri.  He was the son of Reber L. and Faye (McClain) Hawkins.

Larry proudly served in the United States Army.  Following his honorable discharge, he was hired by McDonnell Douglas in St. Louis, Missouri, where he worked on the Mercury Project with the space shuttle for numerous years.   He later transferred to Cape Canaveral in Cocoa Beach, Florida.  

Larry explored different opportunities and developed and owned Pine Island Estates in Merritt Island, Florida.  He also owned a used car business.  In his younger adulthood,   Larry loved to water ski at the Lake of the Ozarks, squirrel hunting, and racing his corvettes, winning several trophies through the years. Larry loved his 2 white shepherd dogs and in general loved all animals.  His family was very dear to him, always coming home every Christmas time to see his parents, aunts, siblings, nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.  Many in the family looked forward to his fresh oranges, grapefruits,  and pecans he brought with him each Christmas to share.

Larry is survived by one sister, Danita (Dee) Allan and husband Gary, of Eugene, Missouri;  two brothers, Gary Hawkins, of Brumley, Missouri and Ken Hawkins and wife Ethel, of Ballwin, Missouri; his aunt Dean Edwards, of Tuscumbia, Missouri; along with several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Larry was preceded in death by his father and mother, Reber L and Faye Hawkins.

Services will be held Wednesday, September 6, 2017 at 6:00 pm at Hedges-Scott Funeral Home in Osage Beach, Missouri.  The family will receive friends for visitation from 5:00-6:00 pm prior to services at the funeral home.

Private Family burial will be at Gott Cemetery in Brumley, Missouri.
