Obituary of Donald Nelson Shanks

Donald Nelson Shanks, age 75, of Camdenton, Missouri, passed away Thursday, September 21, 2017 at his home in Camdenton.

Don was born March 15, 1942 in Clinton, Missouri.  He was the son of Nelson and Coleca (Clannan) Shanks.

On August 25, 1985 in Harrisonville, Missouri, Don was united in marriage to Shirley Mae Drummond.  They shared 32 loving years of marriage together at the time of his death.

Don retired twice; from Honeywell Corporation and from Lucent (AT&T).  After retirement, he enjoyed travelling, and spending time with family.  He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed spending his days deer and turkey hunting, fishing, camping and boating. He was thrilled when he was able to teach his grandchildren how to hunt and fish.

Don was loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather and a caring brother, friend and neighbor. He will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his wife Shirley; his sons, Craig Shanks and wife, Kerri, of Harrisonville, Missouri and Kevin Edwards and wife, Margo, of Kansas City, Missouri; his daughters Kim Ackinson and husband, Josh, of Adrian, Missouri, Cheryl Schmidt and husband, JR, of Glasgow, Missouri, Susan Termini and husband, Mike, of Port St. Lucie, Florida, and Terri Adame of Gardner, Kansas; his sister Natalie Jean Becker and husband, Bill of Belton, Missouri; his mother-in-law Helen Drummond of Glasgow, Missouri; his niece Susan Jarrett and husband, Chip, of Lee's Summit, Missouri; sixteen grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren ;along with other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents Nelson and Coleca Shanks.

A Celebration of Don's Life will be held Saturday, November 4, 2017 from 12:00- 2:00 pm at Hedges-Scott Funeral Home in Camdenton, Missouri.

Memorial donations are suggested to the Alzheimer's Association and may be left at the funeral home.
