Obituary of Douglas Edward Burns
Douglas Edward Burns, age 74, of Macks Creek, Missouri, passed away Friday, September 22, 2017, at Mercy Hospital in Springfield, Missouri.
Doug was born on August 10, 1943 in Kansas City, Missouri. He was the son of Maurice and Maudie (Smit) Burns.
On May 18, 1963 in Independence, Missouri, Doug was united in marriage to Phillis Stafford. They shared 54 years of marriage together at the time of his death.
Doug was an active member of the Branch Memorial Seventh Day Adventist Church. Not only did he help build this church but also helped in the building of the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Bolivar, Missouri. He was the Assistant Fire Chief at Tunas Fire Department and had dug many of the basements in Carnahan Subdivision in Macks Creek. When Doug was younger he loved racing cars. He continued to have a passion for cars throughout his life. Doug enjoyed old cars, tinkering on any type of automobile and working on all things mechanical. Some of his greatest joys was helping people and spending time with family.
Doug is survived by his wife, Phillis Burns, of the home; his children Eileen Hartman of Decatur, Illinois, Debora Moyer of Buffalo, Missouri, David Burns and his wife Jennifer of Preston, Missouri and Daniel Burns of Preston, Missouri; along with 13 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren and many more relatives and friends.
Doug was preceded in death by his parents Maurice and Maudie Burns, and his brothers Robert Burns and Harry Burns.
Services will be held Sunday, October 15, 2017 at 2:00pm at the Branch Memorial Seventh Day Adventist Church in Macks Creek, Missouri. The family will welcome friends for visitation from 1:00-2:00pm prior to services at the church.
Interment will follow services at Hopewell Cemetery in Tunas, Missouri.
