Obituary of Larry Edward Gridley
Larry Edward Gridley, age 84, of Lake Ozark, Missouri, passed away on Sunday, October 8, 2017 at Lake Regional Health Systems, Osage Beach, Missouri.
Larry was born on July 23, 1933 in Ellsworth, Kansas. He was the son of Elliott and Gladys (Elliott) Gridley.
On October 26, 1998, Larry was united in marriage to the love of his life Connie Rehan. They first met at Denny’s restaurant.
Larry served his country proudly in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict.
Larry acquired his education from several schools including U.C.L.A. (Information Systems Design), MIT (Transportation Planning & Project Manager), Georgia Tech (Computer Use in City Plannning and Deconomic Development Administration), City Managers Association (Local lanning Administration), University of Missouri (Urban Planning Technology), University of Kansas (M.S. Degree in Public Education Administration and B.S. Degree in Education).
Larry's work experience spanned across many areas including Teacher-Principal and Superintendent of Schools at Wyandotte (Kansas City, Kansas from 1958-1963), Managing Administrative Officer City Planning Dept. City of Kansas City, MO 1963-1965, State Planning Director-Office of State & Regional Planning, State of Missouri, Jefferson City, MO 1965-1969, Director of state & Regional Planning-Executive Office Atlanta, GA 1969-1973, Vice President for Urban Planning-Viking Investment Corp. Land Developement Division, Chula Vista, CA 1973-1979, City Planning Director-promoted to City Manager-City of Imperial Beach, CA, 1979-1981, Regional Manager- San Diego-Los Angeles Counties-Viking Investment Corp.- Wilshire Offices, Los Angeles, CA, 1981-1987, Business Owner/Operator (partnership) Auto-Systems Rental & Fleet Leasing, Inc. CHula Vista, CA 1987-1992, Semi-retired,1992-1995, City Administrator-City of Lake Ozark, MO 1965-1996.
Larry was very active in the community. He was instrumental in getting the toll bridge to Sunrise Beach and became the Chairman of the Lake Ozarks Community Bridge Commission. He served as the City Administrator of Lake Ozark, and a Board Member of Miller County Tax Increment Board which helped in getting Osage National Golf Course started. He also held a seat on Lake Ozark Board of Alderman. Larry helped many people reform their lives, which he felt was his biggest accomplishment.
He is survived by his family which he loved dearly.
Services will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 11, 2017 at Jubilee Church in Kaiser, Missouri. Friends will be welcomed for visitation from 5:00-6:00 p.m. at the church prior to services.
