Obituary of George Dennis Chelemedos

Sergeant George Dennis Chelemedos, age 62, lost his battle with cancer at Via Christi St. Francis in Wichita, Kansas on Tuesday, October 17, 2017 with family surrounding him.

George was born on March 24, 1955 in Santa Cruz, California to George Ludwig and Myrtia (Ballas) Chelemedos.

In 1973, he joined the Armed Forces and was assigned to the United States Army in Fort Lewis, Washington and retired in 1993 in Waynesville, Missouri. He was a recipient of the Army Service Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal with Bronze Star, Army Lapel Button, Army Good Conduct Medal, NCO Professional Development Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, Sharpshooter (M-16 rifle) Humanitarian Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal with 2nd Oak Leaf Cluster, Recruiters Badge with 2 Gold Achievement Stars, Driver’s Badge-Wheel and the Army Achievement Medal.

On January 12, 2001 George was united in marriage to Linda Sue Burnau-Calvert.

George is survived by his wife Linda Chelemedos of the home; his children Tony Chelemedos and his wife Rocio of Seattle, Washington, Rachel Knopf and her husband Adam of The Dalles, Oregon; his step children Kimberley Capps and husband James of Camdenton, Missouri, Nicki Calvert and significant other Jeremy Jackson of Camdenton, Missouri, Codi Morrison and husband Shannon of Montreal, Missouri; sixteen grandchildren, Dylan Anderson, Emma Tammark, and Kaya Knopf, Jonathan and Faith Manning, Cyric, Bryce, Tyler and Ayden Banuelos, Callei Jackson, Pepper, Savanah, and Sadie Morrison; his sister Mimi Esty; his brother Peter Chelemedos and in-laws Arthur and Audrey Burnau, brother in-laws Art Burnau and significant other Shannon, Steve Burnau and wife Lois, Ron Burnau, Rick Burnau and Dave Burnau and wife Dawn; along with several other relatives and friends.

George was preceded in death by his parents George and Myrtia Chelemedos.

A Celebration of George’s life will be held Saturday, October 28, 2017 from 10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. at Hedges-Scott Funeral Home, Camdenton, Missouri. Military honors to follow.
