Obituary of Daniel "Scott" Hontz

Daniel “Scott” Hontz, age 53, of Camdenton, Missouri, passed away Thursday, November 30, 2017 at his home.

Scott was born October 3, 1964 in Kansas City, Kansas to Ron Sr. and Judy (Hilt) Hontz. He graduated from Oak Grove Christian School in 1983. He attended Citadel Bible College in Ozark, Arkansas from 1983-1985 where he met his wife Tammy Renee McGovern, and were married on July 27, 1985 in Lincoln, Nebraska. He continued his college education at Calvary Bible College in Kansas City, Missouri where he would graduate in 1990 with his Bachelor of Science in Pastoral Studies. He answered God’s call to ministry through pastoring at First Baptist Church of Loup City, Nebraska, Liberty Baptist of Bellevue, Nebraska, Bethel Baptist Church of Britt, Iowa, and Montgomery Baptist Church of Camdenton, Missouri. In between pastoring, he managed at several retail stores including Hy-Vee in recent years and ministered as a teacher, principal, and coach at Camden Christian School.

He was an overall sports enthusiast and especially enjoyed rooting for the Kansas City Chiefs and Kansas City Royals. He played many sports including basketball, soccer, ping pong, and golf. He loved coaching his players on the Camden Christian Crusaders basketball team. He enjoyed spending time with family and playing with his granddaughters. He was his children’s number one encourager.

He is survived by his wife Tammy Hontz; his children Aaron Hontz and his wife Savannah, Anne Hontz, and Ashley Hontz; his grandchildren Natalie and Emma Hontz; his mother Judy Hontz; his brother Jeff Hontz and his wife Susan; along with several nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his father Ronald Hontz Sr. his brother Ronald Hontz Jr., grandparents Gerald and Ruth Hontz and Frank and Dorothy Hilt.

A celebration of life service will be held at 6:00 pm, Tuesday, December 5 in Bible Baptist Church’s gymnasium, formerly Camden Christian School, 735 MO-5 BUS, Camdenton, MO 65020, Pastor Bob Vander Berg will be officiating. There will be a visitation prior to the service at 4:00 pm.

There will be a graveside service Wednesday, December 6 at 10:00 am at Hedges Cemetery.
