Angalia Rowe

Obituary of Angalia A. Rowe

Angalia was born in Hermann, Missouri on July 19, 1918.  She was the second child and only daughter of Fred and Edna (Lettmann) Haas.

At the age of five the family moved to Boonville, Missouri to make their home.  Her father was a building contractor.  She attended school in Boonville from kindergarten until she graduated from high school in 1936,

During her high school years, she worked after school at F.W. Woolworth as a sales clerk and at night at the Lyric Theatre as a ticket seller.   After graduation her first full time job was as a bookkeeper for a major trucking company.

In 1939, she married William Toellner Rowe, whom she had known most of her life since they had attended the same school and church in which they were both very active.

In 1940, she went to work for S.W. Bell Telephone Company as a telephone operator.  Later, she was promoted to service representative.

During World War II, her husband was called to serve in the Navy and was stationed in Oakland, California.  Upon request she was transferred to the same area and worked as a long distance operator, but later was asked to be in charge of the telephone centers in two different naval hospitals (Oak Knoll Naval Hospital and San Leandro Naval Hospital- both in Oakland, California).  After the war was over, she transferred back to the telephone company in Boonville, Missouri.  She continued to work there until 1948 when she had her first child, Ted.  In 1951 their second child, Ed, was born.

In 1956 the family moved to Linn Creek, Missouri where a grocery store was purchased.  Angalia and William both worked in the store for 18 years.

In December 1969 she stared working at the Linn Creek Post Office as a clerk.  In 1973, she was appointed as Postmaster.  After 17 years of service, she retired in August 1986.

Angalia was a loving and devoted wife, helpmate to her husband, and a caring mother and grandmother.  She enjoyed life to the fullest.  Among her many interests were crafts, needle point, baking, sewing, and making costumes for her grandchildren.  She was very involved in her grandchildren’s lives.  Angalia was a member of Linn Creek United Methodist Church.

Angalia is survived by her sons Ed and wife Karen of Camdenton, Missouri; and Ted Rowe of Sparks, Nevada; two grandchildren, Becky (Rowe) Carter and husband Logan and Brian Rowe.

She was preceded in death by her husband William Rowe, her parents, Fred and Edna Haas, and three brothers.
