Obituary of Leo Lester Case, Jr
Leo Lester Case, Jr., son of Leo Lester Case, Sr. and Edith Shimkus Case, was born on September 8, 1946 in East St. Louis, Illinois. He died on December 18, 2017, in Columbia, Missouri, at the University of Missouri Health Care Center. He is survived by his wife, Patricia Lefler Case, Osage Beach, and two daughters, Cristin Lea Case of Osage Beach and Leslie Lynn Case of Kansas City, Missouri.
Leo came to Osage Beach, at age 12, in 1959 when his parents bought a property, Antlers Resort, at the end of Lk-Rd 54-56 (now Case Road). He became very much a “lake” kid. He skied in the original ski show in Lake Ozark; drove the big boats, the Larry Don and the Commander; and became a diver, occasionally diving for law enforcement. He also became a DJ for KRMS radio.
Leo’s work career included many varied activities. After high school, Leo attended a radio engineering program in Dallas, TX, then came back to Osage Beach to work at KRMS again. He worked for a short time at KRCG in Jefferson City, before starting work with Southwestern Bell in the Eldon facility. He began as a lineman, but then moved into the business office, working for the company for 14 years until the business office in Eldon was closed. During his time in Eldon, he served as Municipal Judge for a couple of years; this was before you needed to have a law degree to serve.
Leo and his mother had purchased a restaurant in Lake Ozark, Case’s Tower Restaurant, after they sold the Antlers Resort. When Leo left Southwestern Bell, he worked in the restaurant for a short time, but quickly found other things to occupy his time. He went back to KRMS to do a “Golden Oldies” show on Sunday evening, began doing one night a week of “Golden Oldies” at the original “Eddie’s Nightclub”, which then developed into a mobile DJ business: Rock ‘n’ Roll, Unlimited. Leo did private parties and nightclubs across Missouri for more than 20 years. This led him into announcing and emceeing many local events, as well as providing sound equipment for many of these events. He provided sound equipment, music and emceed the Magic Dragon Car Show for its first 25 years. He emceed the Shootout for the 19 years it was at Shooters 21, providing the sound equipment until KRMS became involved. Most recently, Leo provided sound equipment, music, and emceed Hot Summer Nights for the 10 years since it began.
Leo also became interested in video when video cameras became portable. He and Scott Smith started a business: Video Productions, Unlimited. They created commercials and informational videos for customers throughout Central Missouri. In cooperation with Byron Grimes, they produced “Vacation Video” for several years, promoting the Lake of the Ozarks area. Leo later purchased and managed 54 Storageat the west end of Osage Beach.
A Celebration of Leo's Life will be held from 5:30-7:30 pm, Thursday, December 28, 2017 at Hedges-Scott Funeral Home in Osage Beach, Missouri.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to CADV (Citizens Against Domestic Violence) in Camdenton, Missouri, or the American Diabetes Association.
