Obituary of Norma Emma Abernathy Sadler

Norma Emma Abernathy Sadler, 104, passed through this life on January 8, 2018, in Osage Beach, Missouri.

Norma was born June 7, 1913, in Tilsit, Cape Girardeau County, Missouri.  She was the first of 8 children born to Duke E. and Marie L. (Sander) Abernathy.  Two of her siblings survive: Frances Cromer (Cliff), Belton, Missouri and William Abernathy (Gerry), Sarasota, Florida.

She married Dallas Sadler and together they had three children. The oldest, Carol Ann, preceded her in death; Marjorie Marie Kassel (Donald), Lake Ozark, Missouri; and Patricia Susan Lensmeyer  Karst (Don), Port Orange, Florida. Also surviving are eleven grandchildren, twenty-two great-grandchildren, fourteen great-great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. 

Norma was an educator by profession.  She began her career teaching in one and two room schools in rural Missouri.  After several years, she and her husband relocated to Arizona.  There she taught for the Bureau of Indian Affairs in Pinon and followed that by teaching in and retiring from the Ganado Public School System in Arizona.  After retirement she moved back to Missouri where she lived in Perryville, Columbia, Lees Summit and Osage Beach. 

Visitation will be Friday, January 12, 2018, from 1:00 to 2:00 with a memorial service to follow at Hedges-Scott Funeral Home, 514 MO-42, Osage Beach, Missouri.   A private burial will be at York Chapel Cemetery, Longtown, Missouri.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to York Chapel Cemetery Fund C/O Young and Sons Funeral Home, 110 S. West Street, Perryville, MO 63775.
