Obituary of Marjorie N. Simmons

Marjorie (Mickey) N. Simmons, age 77, of Macks Creek, Missouri, passed away Saturday, February 3, 2018 in Independence, Missouri.

She was born December 23, 1940 in Jackson County, Missouri. She was the daughter of Floyd E. and Beulah (Mulford) Smith.

On April 9, 1960 in Kansas City, Missouri, she was united in marriage to Troy G. Simmons, who preceded her in death March 5, 2010.  They had shared just shy of 50 years of marriage together at the time of Troy's death.

Mickey had worked for a number of years at Macks Creek Schools, and had also volunteered many hours there as well.  She was an excellent baker and  especially loved baking cakes for her family and friends and was also a talented seamstress.

Mickey is survived by her sons, Charles VanArtsdalen and wife, Carolyn, of Independence, Missouri, Danny Bailey, of Macks Creek, Missouri, and Donnie VanArtsdalen of Independence, Missouri; her daughters Nancy Deventer and husband, Larry, of Warrensburg, Missouri, Sandra Green of Independence, Missouri, and Paula Wheeler of Kansas City, Missouri; her brother Floyd "Butch" Smith of Texas; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; along with several other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents Floyd and Beulah Smith; her husband Troy G. Simmons; one son, Steve Simmons; one brother, Denny Smith; and three sisters, Kay Smith, Carol Osborn, and Joan Oxley.

Services will be held Wednesday, February 7, 2018 at 12:00 noon at Branch Assembly of God Church  Auditorium in Branch, Missouri.  The family will welcome friends for visitation from 11:00-12:00 prior to services at the church.

Interment will be at Hopewell Cemetery in Macks Creek, Missouri.
