Obituary of Shirley Ann Sorensen

Shirley Ann Sorensen, age 66, of Tunas, Missouri, passed away Monday, February 26, 2018 at her home in Tunas.

Shirley was born February 2, 1952 in Smithland, Iowa.  She was the daughter of Albert and Shirley (Jonas) Larson.

On September 23, 1978 in South Dakota, Shirley was married to Jerry Sorensen who preceded her in death February 24, 2003.  They shared over 26 years together as husband and wife at the time of Jerry’s death.

Shirley enjoyed a long career as a Registered Nurse.  In her off time from caring for patients, Shirley loved spending her days outdoors tending to her garden, cutting firewood, planting trees and going on nature walks.  She also enjoyed hunting and fishing.   Shirley was a member of Tunas Christian Church where she loved baking for church fellowship dinners.

Shirley’s greatest joy in life was her family.  She was a loving and devoted wife to her husband Jerry, and a caring mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother to her children and their families.

Shirley is survived by her sons, Chad Wiig and wife, Christiana, of Blythedale, Missouri and Jamey Virtue and wife, Stacey, of Ft. White, Florida; her daughters, Brandi Casteel and husband, Don, of Long Lane, Missouri, Melissa Grover and husband, Victor, of Ledyard, Iowa, and Rhonda Hillman and husband, Buddy, of Bakers City, Oregon; her brothers, Ronnie Larson of Oto, Iowa, Donnie Larson and wife, Carol, of Smithland, Iowa, and Lester Larson of Smithland, Iowa; her sister Sharon McDonald of Smithland, Iowa; sixteen grandchildren Kelc’, Aidan, Asa, Eli, Makayla, Pearson, Corbin, Garrett, Savanah, Sabra, Sadiey, Seth, James, Corey, Codey and Nevada; seven great-grandchildren; along with several other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents Albert and Shirley Larson; and her husband Jerry Sorensen.

“But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.” Isaiah 53:5

Visitation will be held Thursday, March 1, 2018, from 6:00-8:00 pm at Hedges-Scott Funeral Home in Macks Creek, Missouri.

Services will be held Friday, March 2, at 2:00 pm at the funeral home.

Interment will follow at AB Cemetery in Celt, Missouri.
