Obituary of Dr. Howard W. Osborn
Dr. Howard W. Osborn, age 78, of Lake Ozark, Missouri, passed away Tuesday, March 6, 2018 at Lake Regional Health System in Osage Beach, Missouri.
Dr. Osborn was born October 29, 1939 in Iola, Kansas. He was the son of Thomas Omar and Ellen (Hickson) Osborn.
On October 5, 1963 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, he was married to Barbara Mueller, who survives. They had shared over 54 years together as husband and wife.
After graduating from Kansas State University in 1961, Dr. Osborn earned his medical degree at the Kansas City University of Medical and Biosciences at the College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1965. Dr. Osborn practiced family medicine for 30 years in the Kansas City area. He enjoyed his time as a member of the K-State Alumni Association, often travelling with and promoting the association with fellow Alumni members. Dr. Osborn proudly served as past Campsite Commissioner and Physician for the H. Roe Bartle Boy Scout Reservation and was a life member of MAOPS. Dr. Osborn and Barbara moved to Lake of the Ozarks in 1998, where he continued practicing family medicine for an additional 8 years before retiring in 2006.
Dr. Osborn enjoyed spending days outdoors, tending to his yard and beautiful roses and feeding the birds that graced his yard. He especially enjoyed feeding and watching hummingbirds. He loved all animals, but had a special place in his heart for dogs, especially his Boxers. Dr. Osborn was an avid reader and enjoyed working on crossword puzzles. He also loved to throw a BBQ any chance he could and his love for his Alumni, K-State never waivered, even to the creation of his “K-State Man Cave”.
Among all his life accomplishments and hobbies, his greatest joy in life, was his family.
Dr. Osborn is survived by his loving wife Barbara; his sons, Ron Osborn of Olathe, Kansas, Dan Osborn of Schuyler, Nebraska and Jon Osborn and wife, Cintia, of Glen Burnie, Maryland; his daughter Deb Osborn and significant other, Robert Barnhill, of Gardner, Kansas; his sister, Grayce Powell and husband, Larry, of Iola, Kansas; two grandchildren, Barbara and Cynthia Joanna; along with several other relatives and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents Thomas and Ellen Osborn.
Funeral Services will be held Friday, March 9, 2018 at 2:00 pm at Harper Chapel United Methodist Church in Osage Beach, Missouri. The family will receive friends for visitation from 1:00-2:00 pm prior to services at the church.
A second service will be Saturday, March 10, with visitation from 10:00-11:00 am and services at 11:00 am at Bruce Funeral Home in Gardner, Kansas. Interment will follow at Ozark Colony Cemetery in Colony, Kansas.
