Obituary of Clara May Manton

Clara May (Anderson) Manton, of Camdenton, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, May 16, 2018 under the loving care of the staff at Colonial Springs Health Care Facility in Buffalo, Missouri.

Clara was born December 3, 1933 in Kansas City, Missouri. She was the daughter of James Howard and Myrtle Leta (Dye) Anderson.

Clara moved with her family to California, graduated from High School and met her father’s fishing buddy, a young Navy air traffic controller named Charles(Chuck) Manton. She and Chuck married in Pacific Grove, California on February 2, 1951. While in California, daughter Susie was born. They then moved to Mississippi where sons, Bob and Charlie were born. In 1969, the family then moved to Camdenton, Missouri.

Chuck and Clara were members of the Camdenton United Methodist Church. Clara worked in retail clothing stores in the lake area for many years. After retiring from retail work, Clara went to Cosmetology school and became a licensed beautician.  Her favorite hobbies were crafting and quilting. Clara was the “Queen Bee” of her local Red Hat Chapter. One of her favorite past times was shopping for presents for her grandchildren and then wrapping those gifts in enormous amounts of tape. Clara enjoyed cooking and will always be remembered for her bountiful meals and especially her pecan and lemon icebox pies.

She is survived by her sons Robert Howard (Bob) Manton and wife Susan and Charles David Manton Sr.; her daughter Susan Marie Atteberry and husband Ron; five grandchildren, Valerie Manton Amyot and husband Alex, Charity Atteberry Hamman and husband Ben, Christa Manton, Josiah Atteberry and Abbie Knudsen, and Charles David (Charlie) Manton, Jr.; and great grandchildren Ella Amyot, Saquoia Manton, Amberlie Manton and step grandson, Justin Luvin; and several nieces and nephews. Among them are Joyce (Jo) Kleckowski, Marge (Ann) Covolo, Kathy Graham and Eddie Murdock.

Clara is preceded in death by her husband Chuck Manton; her parents, James and Myrtle Anderson; brothers James Howard (Lucky) Anderson and Herb Anderson; and sister Lucille (Lucy) Murdock.

Services will be held on Monday, May 21, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Hedges-Scott Funeral Home, Camdenton, Missouri. The family will welcome friends for visitation at 10:00 a.m. prior to service at the funeral home.
