Obituary of James Carlisle Evans

James Carlisle Evans, age 84, of Camdenton, Missouri, passed away Sunday, July 22, 2018 at St. Mary's Hospital in Jefferson City, Missouri, surrounded by family who never left his side.

James was born April 6, 1934 in Pettis County, Missouri, the son of Henry and Wenonah (Hillman) Evans.

James moved to many different states as a child with his father and step mother doing farm work, before moving to Raytown, Missouri and marrying Shirley I. Hill on December 21, 1952.  He cut meat for Milgrims Grocery until he took a job delivering wholesale foods to restaurants and grocery stores before moving to Camdenton, Missouri.  He and his wife opened J&S Upholstery in Greenview, Missouri,  in August of 1976.  They were married 62 years before her passing

James was a member of Masonic Lodge AF & AM #391 in Raytown, Missouri and a Shriner with the Arit Shrine in Raytown, Missouri.  He volunteered with the civil defense and also did rescue diving.  He was an avid fisherman and held the state record in 1961, when he caught  a 14 lb, 6 oz. walleye at Lake Taney Como.  James had served as a deacon with the Southern Baptist Church.

James loved ice cream and donuts, and laughing and talking with people.  He was always taking care of his family, smiling and joking.  He enjoyed helping others, cutting wood and taking care of numerous homes and docks for neighbors who lived at the lake part-time.  He lived his life as an example of what a true family man should be. His most important job was that of Papa to his granddaughter Jessica (Nichi) Staciwa Myers and 2 great granddaughters, Hailli D. Myers and Ryne Myers.

James is survived by his granddaughter Jessica Staciwa Myers and husband, Larry, of Camdenton, Missouri; his great-granddaughters, Hailli Myers and Ryne Myers; his step-sister Atona Harmon of Warsaw, Missouri; along with many friends.

James was preceded in death by his wife Shirley Evans; his father Henry Evans; his mother Wenonah Pate; his step-mother Millie Evans; his daughters Charla Nell Hill and Sharon Keeran; and his step-brother Theodore Evans.
