Obituary of Dorothy M. Dorton
Dorothy M. Dorton, age 96, of Osage Beach, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, July 25, 2018 at Lake Regional Health System in Osage Beach, Missouri.
Dorothy was born February 9, 1922 in St. Louis, Missouri. She was the daughter of Robert and Rose (Janssen) Taylor. Dorothy was an only child, but grew up along with her aunts and uncles whom were more like siblings to her.
On March 8, 1947 in St. Louis, Missouri, she was married to Roland E. Dorton who preceded her in death on January 11, 2004. They had shared 57 years together at the time of Roland’s death.
Dorothy and Roland owned and operated Dairy Creme in Owensville, Missouri for over 25 years, where they lived and were loved by many in the community there. In her spare time, Dorothy enjoyed crafts of all kinds, including ceramics, and she enjoyed playing Bingo with the aunts. She was a wonderful cook and enjoyed cooking for her family and friends. She loved Taco Bell and ice cream. Dorothy was a member of Eastern Star and the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, and for many years, volunteered as a Pink Lady with Lake Regional Health System. Dorothy loved God, and her greatest joy in life was her family, especially her great grandchildren.
Dorothy is survived by her sons, Kerry Dorton and wife, RaeAnn, of Cooper Hill, Missouri, Kenny Dorton and partner, Marilyn, of Canaan, Missouri and Kevin Dorton and wife, Karen, of Drake, Missouri; her daughter Kristie Shrieves Dorton of Camdenton, Missouri; her grandchildren, Shannon Whelchel and partner, Jennifer Martin, Shane Dorton and wife, Christie, Carey O’Neil, Danielle Dittman and husband, Chad, Josh Dorton, Amber Bouse and husband, Chad, Krystal Bogle, Corey Dittman and wife, Rachel, Alex Dorton, Sherri Lorton,Travis Lorton, Emily West, Brittoni Cape and Jessie Ball; along with many great-grandchildren. Dorothy is also survived by her uncle Ivan (Chub) Janssen of St. Louis, Missouri.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Roland E. Dorton; her biological father Robert Taylor; her mother Rose Whiles Brown; her beloved step-father Clarence Whiles; along with numerous aunts and uncles.
Graveside Services will be held, Saturday, August 4, 2018 at 1:00 pm at Lake Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Osage Beach, Missouri.
