Obituary of Jacquelyn Sue Frakes

Jacquelyn Sue Frakes (Jackie), age 66, of Sunrise Beach, Missouri, passed away Friday, August 17, 2018 at home  in Sunrise Beach, Missouri.

Jackie was born March 30, 1952 in Springfield, Illinois; she was the daughter of Fred and Bertha (Hanner) Powell.

Jackie is survived by her husband, Kevin Frakes of the home. Other survivors included four sisters, Betty J Cravens of Lake Ozark, MO, Dr. Barbara J. Powell of Overland Park, Kansas, Patricia L. Hunt of Tallahassee, Florida, and Judith A. Harms (Phillip) of Carlinville, Illinois and brother David A. Powell of Williamsville, Illinois.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Fred and Bertha Hanner Powell and Brothers Robert E. Powell and Charles F. Powell.

Jackie’s first job outside the home was working two summers at the county building in Springfield, Illinois filing birth and death certificates.  After graduating from Williamsville High School, she went to work at Illinois Bell as a Toll Operator.  She always said this was one of her most favorite jobs during her career at the telephone company.  From the operator job she went into the engineering department as a clerk and on to becoming an engineer in various capacities.  She endured the ever changing telephone company from split up of AT&T, to Ameritech and then to SBC.  Now it’s AT&T again. Jackie retired in 1999.

After a brief period she went back to work at Performance Dodge, a car dealership where Kevin worked, processing wholesale paperwork and other clerical work.  In 2000 her mom had a stroke and Jackie quit that job to help take care of her mom.  She and Kevin decided to run a mom and pop car dealership “JK Auto” out of their home.  They did that until 2004 when Jackie persuaded Kevin to relocate to the Lake of the Ozarks.

After moving to the lake, Jackie got involved in the Shawnee Bend Crime Watch and became Secretary/Treasure as well as Shawnee Bend 3 Homes Association where she held various positions in the organization.

Though Jackie never had children by choice, her “kids” were always “Basset Hounds”. There was Nuisance, Dobie, Abbey, Molly, Blackie and Maggie Mae, a few cats managed to come into her life as well.

Life is short-enjoy it to the fullest and remember “It’s nice to be important but it’s more important to be nice.”

A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, September 15, 2018, from 10:30-11:30 am at Shawnee Bend 3 Fire Station.

Memorial donations are suggested to a fund to buy a Marker for Shawnee Bend Cemetery

Inurnment will be at Walnut Hill Cemetery, Williamsville, Illinois next to  her family plot.
