Obituary of Paul Sharaga

Paul Sharaga, age 90, of Eldon, Missouri passed away of cancer on Tuesday, August 21, 2018 in his home with his family by his side.

Paul was born on August 13, 1928 in Cleveland, Ohio to parents Harry Reuben Sharaga and Helen (Pacht) Sharaga, both formerly from Romania.

On September 8, 1957, Paul was united in marriage to Marlene Short. They were married for almost 62 years. The couple had 3 children together and Paul had 2 children from a previous marriage.

The family moved to Los Angeles, California where Paul enlisted in the United States Coast Guard Reserves in October 1944. He served as a Radioman 3rd Class until he was honorably discharged in May 1946.

Paul joined the Los Angeles Police Department in March 1949, where he retired as Sergeant in March 1969. He then served in the United States Navy as Radioman 3rd Class for two months when, in June 1951, he was honorably discharged for hardship. After 21 years of service on the LAPD, Paul went to work for the City of Los Angeles as an Investigator for Social Services. In 1970, Paul moved his family to San Diego, California where he went to work as Head of Security for the Akron Stores.

1975 found Paul moving his family to Brumley, Missouri, where he worked as Sergeant for the Osage Beach Police Department for about 6 months and then decided to open his own business. That’s when Paul’s TV & Appliance came into being. In 1997 he retired, and he and his wife Marlene began to travel. Paul was a member of the Fairgrounds Church of Christ in Jefferson City, Missouri. Prior to his first stroke, in 2008, he enjoyed leading singing in surrounding Churches of Christ. He also loved gardening, fishing and boating. Paul was a great family man, loving father, loving grandfather and great grandfather. His family and friends will always remember him as a giving, loving and hardworking person.

Paul is survived by his sons Rick Turner (Tessa) of Ojai, California and Steve Sharaga (Jill) of Brisbane, Australia; his daughters Andrea McGowin (Sheldon) of Eldon, Missouri and Sandra Brown (Chris) of Bedford, Texas; his sister Cecil Bernstein of New Hall, California; 9 grandchildren, Sebastian Sharaga and Jasmin Sharaga of Brisbane, Australia; Jenni Webber of Lake Ozark, Missouri and Josh McGowin (Annie) of Tuscumbia, Missouri; Alex Brown and  Elise Brown of Bedford, Texas, Tobi Greene (Mike), Tyler Turner (Carrie) and Todd Turner, all of Ojai, California; 12 great grandchildren, Vanessa, Dean and Drew Webber of Lake Ozark, Missouri, Tennyson McGowin of Tuscumbia, Missouri, Hannah and Finn Greene, Irelyn and Tula, and Myles and Jax Turner, all of Ojai, California.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Helen Sharaga, formerly of Los Angeles, California; his brother George Sharaga of Sherman Oaks, California and son Larry Turner of Thailand.

Services will be held on Friday, August 31, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. at Fair Grounds Road Church of Christ, 1316 Fairgrounds Rd., Jefferson City, Missouri. The family will welcome friends for visitation from 12:00(noon)-1:00 p.m. prior to service at the church. Carey Terry and Lloyd Parr will officiate.

All are welcome to attend and celebrate Paul’s life.

The family would like to thank Hospice Compassus for all their wonderful help and support these last several months. They made it possible to keep Paul at home and their empathy and care surpassed all expectations!
