Obituary of Raymond George King

Raymond George King, age 90, of Four Seasons, passed away at Lakeside Meadows in Osage Beach, Missouri on Tuesday, August 21, 2018.

Ray was born October 6, 1927 in St. Louis, Missouri. He was the son of Robert and Blanche (Schweiker) King.

Ray attended Central High School in St. Louis, Missouri and after graduation attended Southeast Missouri State in Cape Girardeau. After college he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps where he served from February 1946 until December of 1947. On February 3, 1951, he was united in marriage to Mary Lou (Curtis) King. Together they raised 3 sons in St. Louis while Ray worked as a salesman. Ray and Lou then moved to the Lake of the Ozarks where he opened Sleep Station furniture store and would run that business until his retirement. After retiring, Ray continued to work part time at Bear Creek Golf Course.

Ray was a proud father, grandfather and great-grandfather who was an avid Osage Indian fan, sitting front row at almost every sporting event that his grandchildren participated in. He was an athlete himself who loved to play tennis. He was a member of the Missouri Athletic Club where his volleyball team took 4th place in the National Championship in New York in 1976. He also participated in the 1985 Senior Olympics.  Participating in and watching sporting events was his passion, along with working out and staying active.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Mary Lou (Curtis) King, of the home; three sons, Scott (Denise), Kirk (Barb)  and Clay King, all of the Lake area; grandchildren, Scott (Carey), Nick (Danielle), Drew and Kelly, Nickie and Mandy Blaeuer; great grandchildren, Jordan, Makenzi, Bostan and Landon.

Ray was preceded in death by his father Robert King; mother Blanche (Schweiker) King; one brother and one sister.

Celebration of Life will be held Sunday, September 16, 2018 at the Four Seasons POA, Four Seasons, Missouri, beginning at 12:00 pm noon.
