Thelma West

Obituary of Thelma Lorraine West

Thelma Lorraine West, age 87, of Camdenton, Missouri, passed away on September 16, 2018. She was born November 8, 1930 in Glenwood, Iowa; the daughter of Hobart Sylvester and Mary Pearl (Roberts) Adams. On September 10, 1948, in Linn Creek, Missouri, Thelma was united in marriage to Leon West.  They shared 58 loving years together before Leon passed on December 2, 2006.

Thelma was a loving mother who encouraged her children to do their best.  She hand made a quilt for each of her children; thus, leading to two of her daughters being quilters.  She instilled a love of reading and music which has been passed down now to the third generation.  Her great-grandchildren still enjoyed sitting on her lap to hear a story read to them. Her greatest joy was her family and spending time with them.  Leon and Thelma loved spending their winters in Florida.

Thelma is survived by her children:  James West of Bradenton, FL, and wife, Maureen; Karen West of Camdenton, MO; Kathy Blankenbeker of Macks Creek, MO, and husband, John; Alan West of Camdenton, MO, and wife, Marcia; Vickie Stonitsch of Naples, FL, and husband, David; and Jerry (J. C.) West of Columbia, Missouri.  She is also survived by her grandchildren, Amy and Colin West, Shawn Galinski, Misti Galinski Ernst, Hilary West Kirksche, Slater West, Jessica Stonitsch Schwessinger, Lindsay Stonitsch Imbese, Danielle and Kayla West, Karl and B.J. Blankenbeker.  She had 21 great-grandchildren.  Her sister, Joyce Dougan, also survives her along with numerous other relatives and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents Hobart and Pearl Adams; her step-mother, Flossie Sousley; her husband, Leon West; her daughter-in-law, Susan Rudi West; Carissa Lorraine Stonitsch and another granddaughter; and her sisters, Verba Carnes and Maxine DeVolld.
