Obituary of Donald Gene Simler

Donald Gene “Don” Simler, age 79 of Hermitage, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, October 3, 2018 at his home surrounded by family in Hermitage.

Don was born February 9, 1939 in Nevada, Missouri. He was the son of Albert and Dorothy (Kirby) Simler.

Don owned and operated his own contract home painting business from southern Missouri to the Kansas City Metro area for many years. He loved spending time outdoors and especially enjoyed the times when he could go hunting and fishing.  Don was an expert at catching fish with his famous brown jigs. Deer and turkey never had a chance. More than anything, Don loved his family very much and he loved the time he spent with them.

He was loved and had cherished friendships by many. He never knew a stranger, a bigger heart you will not find.  He answered to many names, Son, Dad, Grandpa, Brother, Cousin, Friend, Good Samaritan and last, but not least, Rembrandt!

Don is survived by his life love partner and best friend, Laura Alexander of Hermitage; his daughter Kathy Lovall of Pleasant Hill, Missouri; step-son James Adams and wife, Teri of Finey, Missouri; Stepson Randall Alexander of Nixa, Missouri; Step-son Adam Alexander of the home; seven grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren and one great- great grandchild. He is also survived by his brothers Jack Farmer of Hermitage, Missouri and Robert Warren of Blue Springs, Missouri; and sisters Judy Baker and husband, Jerry, of Oak Grove, Missouri and Sheila Hand and husband, Larry, of Nevada, Missouri; along with several other relatives and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents Albert and Dorothy Simler; his brothers, Larry Farmer and Ricky Noel; and his sister Jean Snowden.

Services will be held Sunday, October 14, 2018 at 3:00 pm at Hedges-Scott Funeral Home in Macks Creek, Missouri.

The family will welcome friends for visitation from 1:00-3:00 pm prior to services at the funeral home.

Interment will follow services at Macks Creek Cemetery, in Macks Creek, Missouri.

Memorial donations are suggested to American Cancer Society.
