I just saw the notice of Flip’s death. My late condolences to his family and friends.I speak for thousands who vacationed at Kirkwood Lodge, whose lives were brightened by Flip. As a kid growing up, those summers at Kirkwood in the 60s and into the 70s were magical—and Flip was the head magician. Arizona Public Radio did a piece a few years ago on Flip. So glad they documented a bit of his life and legend. RIP

Marshall was a true star, beloved by his dancers and esteemed by his peers (though one might argue that his calling was peerless). Bringing laughter and joy to people was his mission in life and he was always giving his best, whether on stage or in the recording studio.
My first encounter with his philosophy of calling was on the pages of "The Caller Text", a superb manual for beginner (and expierienced) callers. Many of his records are in my case, and just yesterday I called "Another Square Dance Caller" as a tribute to him.
Never to be forgotten: the experience of dancing to his calling - and sharing the stage with him and other Chaparral staff members for a guest tip during the Friendship Dance at Grassau, Germany (Chiemsee) in September 2007.
Rest in peace and thanks for the memories! My thoughts and best wishes go out to his friends and family.

I’m so blessed to have known him. He made me laugh with his sense of humor. I danced to his square dance calls. He was a wonderful man who is now calling squares in heaven with people who knew him and he’s adapting his calls to protect their wings.

Our friendship of 50+ years goes so deeply for Flip. He was not only the best at Square Dancing, he was best at remembering, loving and sharing him self with others. Never forgot a name, had that special Flip kiss, and made everyone enjoy just being in his presence. We called together, visited, traveled and truly loved the man everyone called Flippo! He was so proud of his son John, proud of learning in a chicken coop and always proud to be your friend. He may be at rest now, but his Legend will live forever. Our love and prayers to the Family.
