Obituary of Carole Jean Bloomfield

Carole Jean (Stickley) Bloomfield, of Lebanon, Missouri passed away on Thursday, November 8, 2018 at Mercy Hospital, Springfield, Missouri.

Jean was born at Bailey Town, Missouri on June 14, 1946 and raised until age 8 in Dallas County near Bennett Spring State Park. One of nine children raised by mother Mary Madeline (Scrivner) Stickley and William Franklin Stickley.

Earliest memory was when she got a new pair of jeans with suspenders and a pair of cowboy boots. She seemed to remember always having many people around all the time, and never having any privacy. Brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles and especially her Grandmother, Lulu (Bailey) Scrivener, whom she said was a great influence on her later life. She remembered one of her favorite things to do was sit on the porch, in the swing, doing crossword puzzles and solving the world’s problems.

At age 8, her family moved to Lebanon, Missouri and then later to Waynesville, Missouri. But she always felt Bailey Town and that area was her “home” because of all the family there. At Waynesville, she attended school and her first job was at the local movie theater where she sold popcorn and sodas at the concession stand. She smiled as she remembered being able to watch the movies for free in between customers. Jean’s family then moved to Eldon, Missouri and was there for awhile then moved back to Lebanon, where her father got a job.

While in Lebanon, she worked at Medley Drugstore as a Soda Fountain Clerk. She met a young soldier (C.P. Bloomfield) home on furlough, who as it turned out, was someone she had gone to elementary school with at Windyville, Missouri when she lived at Bailey Town. She knew his family, he knew hers, and it was just a matter of renewing old friendships and developing new feelings for each other.

Married Calvin Paul (C.P.) Bloomfield, on December 5, 1965. They have two children, William Joseph Paul Bloomfield and Melissa Jeane Bloomfield. Jean primarily was a stay at home mom, taking care of the children. She occasionally took jobs, as a sales clerk, when C.P. was stationed overseas. Jean and the kids lived all over the country, following him around in the military, Missouri, California, Alabama, Kentucky and Kansas. Sometimes renting a home, and sometimes living in quarters on post. She became very spend thrifty during those years in order to take care of the family on what they earned. After 20 years in the Army, C.P. semi-retired and moved back to Missouri. Jean and C.P. lived in Missouri, raised their children, worked different jobs and eventually both retired.

C.P. gives Jean all the credit for taking care of the family when he was away from home in the Army. She said there were several lean years, but they worked through them. Sometimes with very little. She always said that she wished she could relive some of the early days with her children and C.P. and “Just love them more and more.”

A Celebration of Life will be held at Plad Cemetery, Tunas, Missouri at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 2, 2018.
