Anne Gebhards Meade

Obituary of Anne Marie Gebhards Meade

Anne Marie Gebhards Meade passed from her earthly home to her eternal home on February 25, 2019, at the age of 82.  Anne was born on October 12, 1936 in Phelps City, Missouri, to Ruby Claire (Greenley) and Benhard Berand Gebhards.  She was raised on a farm just outside Rock Port, Missouri, attending Lone Pine School and Rock Port High School where she was active in 4-H and was elected Homecoming Queen.

Anne married James Lee Meade on November 6, 1955, at First Lutheran Church in Rock Port. Their married life began in Maryville, Missouri.  Together, they had two daughters, Diana Lynne Meade Scoggin and Judith Ann Meade Wall.  Jim and Anne spent most of their lives as owners of Moffett Nursery and Garden Center and Eastowne Power Equipment in St. Joseph, Missouri.  They retired to Lebanon, Missouri, where Anne was a member of the Garden Club and volunteered at Crosslines Ministry.

Early in life, Anne made a profession of faith.  Anne was active in her church as a Sunday School Teacher for several years.  She loved the Lord and lived her faith daily. She was also a talented seamstress, frequently making garments for her family members.  Her daughters and granddaughters often received precious gifts of matching nightgowns and pajamas. Anne’s family was her first priority.   Anne left a legacy of love.

Anne was preceded in death by her parents, brother Robert Gebhards, sister Susan Gebhards, and son-in-law Bill Scoggin.  She is survived by her husband Jim, her daughters Diana Scoggin and Judith (Russell) Wall and her brother John (Diana) Gebhards. Also surviving are granddaughters Abby (Blake) Long, Sarah Scoggin and Jennifer Scoggin, and 2 great-grandsons, numerous nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews.
