Obituary of Lucy Ann Herman
Lucy Ann Herman, of Edwards, Missouri, passed away at the young age of 66 on Sunday, May 5, 2019, surrounded by her family, at Lake Regional Health System in Osage Beach, Missouri. Lucy fought a brave and courageous battle with cancer for ten months, of which she lived each day to the fullest; cuddling her grandchildren and teaching them valuable lessons, spending precious moments with her children, making her famous soaps, praising the Lord, and using her gift for working with the earth and plants.
Lucy was born on August 20, 1952 in Minneapolis, Minnesota to Randolph and Edith Herman, whom preceded her in death. Lucy is survived by her beloved children, Lawrence Shoemake, his wife Tammara, and their son Harrison; Gladys Shoemake, her partner Chris, and her daughter Dawn; her youngest brother, Randy Herman and his partner, Deb; her brother, Thomas Harrison; her sister, Vivian Herman and her husband, Tamia; her closest friends of 55 years, Conrad and Holly Schimmelpfennig; the father of her children, Larry Shoemake; many family members, and a multitude of friends around the world.
Lucy graduated with a Masters from Northwestern University. She lived her life vibrantly and had many different professions; but was first and foremost an incredible artist. Her artistry extended not only into her beautiful oil paintings; but also into her mixed media, her gardening, her unique and personable figures, her culinary creations, and her healing soaps. Lucy had a gift and a true love for food and helping people, feeding countless in need during her lifetime. She was a world traveler, and spent time traveling from country to country most of her life, soaking in all of the culture and knowledge she could find. Lucy never met a stranger, and was a true symbol of God’s love and strength shining within a human. She led a dedicated and faithful life with God as her constant companion and shepherd. Lucy truly changed the world, and many people’s lives, with her selfless nature and unconditional love.
Above all else, Lucy was a mother to her children and a Grammy to her grandchildren; she dedicated her life to these roles and set an extraordinary example. She was a cherished mother, Grammy, family member and friend; loved by all who met her. Though we no longer have her with us on this earth, she will never be forgotten, and her legacy will live on in our hearts and in the examples she set for all.
A memorial service will be held at the Climax Springs Civic Center, located in Climax Springs, Missouri on Saturday, June 1, 2019 at 12:30 P.M. Following the memorial service, there will be a potluck dinner for all service attendees. Directly after the potluck dinner, a revival will be held in celebration of Lucy’s life; all service attendees and the public are welcome to attend. The service and events are expected to last a total of three to five hours.
