Obituary of James VanDyke

James "Jim" VanDyke, age 66, of Eldon, Missouri, passed away Sunday, June 9, 2019 at his home in Eldon.

 

Jim was born November 11, 1952 in Borger, Texas, the son of Chester and Ruth (McClure) VanDyke.

 

On May 6, 2012 in Lincoln, Nebraska, Jim was united in marriage to Mary Buchanan.  They had shared 7 years together as husband and wife at the time of his death.

 

After moving to Missouri with his family, Jim grew up in Eldon where his father served as pastor of First Christian Church.   He attended school there and after graduating from Eldon High School,  he enlisted with the United States Army.  Jim served proudly with the Army during the Vietnam War and retired from a long military career as a recovery specialist.   Jim enjoyed fishing, camping and riding his motorcycle.  He had a great sense of humor and loved people.

 

Jim loved his family more than anything and will be sorely missed by all.

 

Jim is survived by his wife, Mary, of the home; his sons, Charles Novak and John Novack; his daughters, Terry VanOsdol, Brenda Zaleski, and Windy Ironteeth; his sister Colene Thompson; along with several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents Chester and Ruth VanDayke; and one brother.

 

Services will be held Tuesday, June 18, 2019 at 12:00 pm at Hedges-Scott Funeral Home in Osage Beach, Missouri.  The family will welcome friends for visitation from 10:00-12:00 at the funeral home.

 

Interment with Military Honors will be at 2:00 pm, June 18, at Missouri Veterans Cemetery, Ft. Leonard Wood, Waynesville, Missouri.

 

Memorial donations are suggested to the family.
