Obituary of John Davis Parrack
John Davis Parrack, age 65, of Springfield, Missouri, joined his Lord and Saviour Thursday, July 25, 2019, at Mt. Vernon Veterans Home, in Mt. Vernon, Missouri.
John was born on January 25, 1954, in Nevada, Missouri. He was the son of Vaughn and Edna Earl (Russell) Parrack.
On October 16, 1998, in Lebanon, Missouri, he was united in marriage to Carol Schmoutey O’Dell.
John attended Metz school, near Nevada, and graduated in 1972. After graduation John joined the Army. He served three years in the army, stationed at United States Army Garrison In Baumholder, Germany. He was honorably discharged from the military in 1977. After serving in the army, John lived and worked in Dallas, Texas. In 1987, he moved to Wichita, Kansas, and went to driving school to become a long haul truck driver. In 1995, he met Carol O’Dell. John and Carol were employed at Copp Transport in Kansas City, Kansas. They became team drivers and drove all lower 48 states and most of Canada. They specialized in military haul. They lived in Holbrook, Arizona, before moving to Greenfield, Missouri, in 1996. John and Carol were active in First Baptist Church of Greenfield where John was the music director for many years. In 2014, they bought a 5th wheel camper and moved to the West Texas oil fields of Odessa and Midland. John worked for Pilot Flying J hauling gas and diesel fuel. He retired in 2016, due to a diagnosis of Multiple System Atrophy. John and Carol retired to Lake Falling Star near Lockhart, Texas. John enjoyed golfing, and setting outside his camper, visiting with friends. They returned to Springfield, Missouri, in early 2017. In 2018, John entered the VA nursing home in Warrensburg, Missouri. John later moved to Mt. Vernon VA Nursing home in March of 2019, where he remained until his death.
John is survived by his wife Carol Parrack, his sons John Davis Parrack Jr, and his wife Cari, Chris O’Dell, Dee O’Dell, and his wife Sue, 11 Grandchildren; Kristina Parrack, Jeremiah Parrack, Ariana Parrack, Ashley Adams, Kelsey Beach, Jessica Primmer, Dakotah O’Dell, Aliesha O’Dell, Chace O’Dell, Sara O’Dell, and Steven O’Dell. Two Great Grandsons Axton Primmer and Harrison Keehn.
John was preceded in death by his parents Vaughn and Edna Earl Parrack. His brothers Bill, Bob, and his sister Betty Kay.
Graveside Services with Military Honors will be held at 2:00 pm, Friday, August 2, 2019 at Parrack Grove Cemetery.
