Obituary of Marvin Phillip Swofford

Marvin Phillip Swofford, age 71, of Rocky Mount, Missouri, passed away Friday, July 26, 2019 at University Hospital in Columbia, Missouri.

Marvin was born April 7, 1948 in Tuscumbia, Missouri, the son of Roy and Mildred (Reinhart) Swofford.

Marvin served his country proudly in the United States Army and was honorably discharged in 1970.

On November 4, 1966 in Osage Beach, Missouri, Marvin was united in marriage to Jonda  Thompson.  They had shared over 52 years together as husband and wife at the time of Marvin's death.

Marvin owned and operated Marvin's Professional Marine & Fiberglass and was also a condominium developer in the lake area for many years.   In his spare time, he enjoyed bird hunting and fishing, especially his fishing excursions to Canada and Alaska.  He loved cruising around the lake on his boat,  and enjoyed traveling as often as he could.   Marvin was very fond of fast cars and enjoyed playing poker with his buddies.  More than anything, he loved his family.

Marvin was a member of Bagnell Baptist Church.  He was a loving husband, father and grandfather and a great friend and neighbor to all who knew him.

Marvin is survived by his wife, Jonda, of the home; his daughter, Michele Martin and husband, Scott,  of Barnhart, Missouri; and two grandchildren, Brendan Michael and Ashley Louise.  He is also survived by his brothers, Dorless Swofford and wife, Francis of Brumley, Missouri, Larry Swofford of Brumley, Missouri, and Morris Swofford and wife, Joan, of St. Peters, Missouri; along with several other relatives and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Mildred Swofford; and his sister-in-law, Wilma.
