Obituary of Sheldon F. McGowin
Sheldon F. McGowin, age 60, of Eldon, Missouri, passed away Friday, July 26, 2019 at his home in Eldon, surrounded by his family. Sheldon was born February 6, 1959 in Jefferson City, Missouri. He was the son of Joshua and Myna (Patterson) McGowin.
On June 9, 1978 in Eldon, Missouri, Sheldon was united in marriage to Andrea Sharaga and together they shared over 41 years as husband and wife.
Sheldon worked for the Lodge of the Four Seasons for 26 years. He then went to work as a Corrections Officer for 11 years at JCCC, Missouri Department of Corrections in Jefferson City, Missouri.
In his spare time, Sheldon enjoyed spending days outdoors working in his yard and time spent working and tinkering in the barn. He loved hosting parties in the "party" barn where many cherished memories were made and he was also a gifted painter. Sheldon was a history buff and a writer of stories. More than anything, Sheldon loved his family, and eating his mom's fried chicken.
Sheldon was a member of Ulman Christian Church for over 50 years where he served in all capacities, including minister. He was a member of Fairgrounds Church of Christ for the past year.
Sheldon was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather and a good friend and neighbor to those who knew him. His memory and legacy will live on in the lives of his family.
Sheldon is survived by his wife, Andrea McGowin of the the home; his father Joshua "Buster" McGowin and his wife, Clara, of Jefferson City, Missouri; his son, Joshua McGowin and wife, Annie, of Tuscumbia, Missouri; his daughter Jennifer Webber of Lake Ozark, Missouri; four grandchildren, Vanessa Webber, Dean Webber, Drew Webber, and Tennyson McGowin; and one great grandson, Kyrie Manning. He is also survived by his brother Shannon McGowin and wife, Sonia, of Jefferson City, Missouri; and his sister, Sharla Hyler of Columbia, Missouri; along with several nieces and nephews.
After a long fight with pancreatic cancer, the good Lord took him into His loving and pain free arms. He was preceded in death by his mother Myna McGowin who lost her battle with cancer in 2016.
Services will be held at 2:00 pm, Saturday, August 3,2019 at Fairgrounds Church of Christ in Jefferson City, Missouri. The family will welcome friends for visitation from 12:00-2:00 pm prior to services at the church.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to St. Jude's Children's Hospital in Sheldon's honor.
