Obituary of Vernon Burdette

Vernon (Lance) Burdette, age 79, loving husband, father & grandfather passed away on October 29th, 2019 at his home surrounded by family.  He was born December 30th, 1939 in Thomasville, GA to Vernon E. Burdette and Edith L. Booth. 

Lance was preceded in death by his father, mother, brother Lamar and sister Frances Cottingham.  He is survived by his loving wife Donna, sister Jackie Laine of New Jersey, son Russell and wife Tammy, grandchildren Erin of Fort Meyers FL, Justin, Elijah, Zechariah and Eden, stepson Phillip and wife Amy, grandchildren Charity, Alyssa and Chance all from the Lake Area.

Lance entered the U.S. Army in 1957 serving for three years and he then served in the U.S. Air Force for an additional 17 years, retiring in 1977 with the rank of Master Sergeant.  Out of his 20 years of military service he served 13 overseas including assignments in Okinawa Japan, Azores Portugal, Bangkok Thailand, Wiesbaden Germany and Guam.

Upon his retirement from the military he settled at the Lake of the Ozarks working in property management for 13 years with Four Seasons Lakesites and then 10 years as an executive with the Missouri Department of Mental Health in St. Louis.

Retiring in 2002, Lance and Donna moved to Lady Lake, FL where he enjoyed golf, fishing, gardening, cooking and poker with his friends.  In 2015 they returned to Osage Beach to be near family.

The family will welcome friends for visitation from 2:00-3:00 p.m on Saturday, November 2, 2019 at Hedges-Scott Funeral Home, Osage Beach, Missouri. Service will begin at 3:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Military Honors will immediately follow the service at 3:30 p.m.
