Obituary of Helen "Penny" Harris-Smith
Helen “Penny” Lucille Pennington Harris-Smith, age 94, of Roach, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, November 20, 2019 at her home in Roach.
Penny was born November 22, 1924 in Salem, West Virginia to Cyrus and Birtha (Flescher) Pennington.
During WWII, Penny worked in Baltimore, Maryland, building B-26 bombers at Glen L. Martin Company. She also worked at a munitions plant, and later at DuPont in Martinsville, Virginia. Penny devoted herself to be a homemaker after 1953. She was a Girl Scout leader for 12 years and helped with Boy Scouts. She enjoyed singing in various church and community choirs.
Penny is survived by her children, William B. Harris, JR and wife Jennifer, Robert D. Harris and wife Linn, and Barbara Harris Olijar; 13 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and several other relatives and friends.
Penny was preceded in death by her parents, Cyrus and Birtha Pennington; first husband William B. Harris, SR; second husband Albert Eugene Smith; and son-in-law Steven Olijar.
Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, December 7, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at Crossroads Assembly of God Church, Lake Road 5-35, Sunrise Beach, Missouri.
Interment will be at Oakwood Cemetery in Martinsville, Virginia.
