Obituary of Elmer Meyer

Elmer was born in 1936 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and joined the US Army in 1955 where he was shipped to Korea after the war to serve till 1959, when he joined the Kansas City, Missouri Police Department as a clerk. He also introduced and fell in love with Ruthie by her Uncle and later they were married. After becoming a member of the law enforcement family at the KCPD, he was blessed to rise to the rank of Major and was in charge of a variety of different command assignments from Crimes Against Persons to include Homicide, Robbery and Sex Crimes Units to the Narcotics and Vice Division. During his time with the KCPD he was a constant face as security for the two Hilton Hotels in Kansas City, as he ran security for both hotels for decades. He also attained a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice from Central Missouri State University by going to night school for years as well as being a graduate of the well-respected FBI National Academy in Quantico, Virginia. He had a second passion away from “the job” and that was the time he was able to spend at his home at Lake of the Ozarks. He so enjoyed the time away from the grind of “the job” to fish with his two boys, Troy and Shad. After a full 30 years of service to the citizens of Kansas City, Missouri, he retired and shortly thereafter moved full time to enjoy life at the Lake of the Ozarks. After moving to the Lake and painting every room in the house the first year, he overheard a job opportunity on the radio that Camdenton, Missouri needed a Police Chief. He applied, was hired and began service to the citizens of Camdenton, Missouri. During this time, he was a member of the Missouri Police Officer’s Association, he was elected as President of the organization in 1995. After eight years of service within the Police Department at Camdenton, City leaders unanimously promoted him to the position of City Administrator of the entire City of Camdenton. He faithfully served in this capacity for the next 10 years and spearheaded projects associated with building a new City Hall facility, upgrades to the City Ballpark and water park, upgrades to the Airport, including lengthening of the runway and the implementation of a retirement system for City employees. Upon completion of these project, he felt the time had come in his life to simply retire and enjoy the rest of his life and travel to wherever he and Ruthie would dream. He so looked forward to his time after Christmas when he would pack up the car and head south to Florida to legally manipulate his numerous timeshares to his benefit for the entire winter season. Whereas he would later return to the Lake for the remaining three seasons. Elmer was one of 13 siblings to Jacob and Lulu Meyer and is proceeded in death by a number of siblings, but is survived by a large number as well. He is survived by his wife, Ruthie of the home and son, Troy (Donna) Meyer of Sunrise Beach, Missouri, Troy’s children- Brandon (Stephanie) Meyer and Amber (Colby) Graham, all of Kearney, Missouri and Donna’s children- Bryan (Tiffany) Butters of Springfield, Missouri, Brittney (Cody) Costello of Harleton, Texas and Breana Butters/Scott Rhomberg of Pompano Beach, Florida. He is proceeded in death by his son, Shad (Felicia) Meyer of Louisburg, Kansas, their children- Zachary (Ashley) Meyer and Aiden Meyer. He is also survived by numerous great-grandchildren. Due to the events of the times, there will only be a very small private family only service in Camdenton and in Kansas City, Missouri, where he will be laid to rest with full honors to his Country and the City of Kansas City, Missouri and Camdenton, Missouri.
