Obituary of Virginia B. McFarland

Virginia B. (Harvey) McFarland was born June 18, 1935 in Nicholasville, Kentucky, a daughter of Holman and Lucy Johns Harvey. She passed in her home after a courageous and difficult battle with cancer on Thursday, April 30, 2020. She married Harold "Mac" G. McFarland on May 24, 1952 and lived as a loving military wife through two wars, two countries and six states. They closed their Ranger boat shop in St. Joseph, Illinois in 1994, and she retired from Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri in 1997, after working over 30 years in civil service as an accountant. Virginia enjoyed baking, country music and spending time with her family. Virginia is survived by her husband of 68 years Harold "Mac" McFarland of the home; two sons Ricky D. McFarland (Joy) of Missouri, Glenn A. McFarland (Norma) of Illinois; and daughter Robbin J. Sawyer (Henry) of Missouri. Also surviving are four grandchildren Cassidy, Danielle, Kylie, and Hayley; two great-grandchildren Saoirse and Mira; and her brother Harold Harvey. Virginia is preceded in death by her parents and four brothers, Holman Jr., Verlin, Carlie and Jesse. Private Family Services will be held at Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Springfield, Missouri. Memorial donations are suggested to Compassus Hospice.
