Obituary of Marvin Louie Black Sr.

Marvin Louie Black Sr., age 92, of Brumley, Missouri, went to his heavenly home on Thursday, August 20, 2020 at the Missouri Veterans Home in Saint James, Missouri. Marvin was born September 16, 1927 in Gypsy Corner, Oklahoma, the son of Luie Monroe and Mary Alice (Scott) Black. On April 25, 1963, Marvin was united in marriage to Ada L. Tornquist in Lake Ozark, Missouri. They shared 57 years together at the time of his passing. Marvin proudly served his country in the United States Army during World War II. Because of his skilled marksmanship with firearms, he was assigned the task of teaching other recruits the safe and proper use of their weapons. He owned Marvin L. Black Sr. Construction for many years. He took great pleasure in building homes and especially building cabinets. He owned and operated Sportsman’s Cove Resort in Osage Beach for 45 years with Ada. He delighted in flying his planes on long trips or over the lake he called home. Marvin has lived in the lake area since a small child and was invested in the lake’s growth. As Mayor of Osage Beach, Missouri for 3 terms, he felt privileged to be part of its development. Marvin appreciated the outdoors. He was a skillful hunter and a proficient fisherman. Marvin devoted many hours to raising cattle on his farm. He was a faithful follower of Christ and was a member of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church. Marvin is survived by his wife Ada L. Black of the home; sons Marvin Black Jr. of Osage Beach, Missouri, Gregory Black of Union, Missouri, Anthony Black of Brumley, Missouri; daughters Linda Holcomb and husband Charles of Carrabelle, Florida, Debi Gamm and husband Brian of Brumley, Missouri, and Desta Franklin and husband Tom of Osage Beach, Missouri; many grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and many great-great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Reda Black of Edmond, Oklahoma; and many other relatives and friends. Marvin was preceded in death by his parents Luie and Mary Black; 3 sons Stephen Black, Randy Black, and Jonathan Black; and brother Melvin Black. A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 pm, Tuesday, August 25, 2020 at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church in Lake Ozark, Missouri. The family will welcome friends for visitation from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm on Tuesday, August 25, 2020 at the church prior to services. Interment will be held at Lake Memorial Gardens in Osage Beach, Missouri.
