Obituary of Frank Douglas Mattenlee
Frank Douglas Mattenlee, age 84, of Laurie, Missouri, passed away Friday, August 28, 2020 at Lake Regional Health System in Osage Beach, Missouri.
Doug, as he was known to family & friends, was born May 3, 1936 in Kansas City, Missouri to Frank Mattenlee, Sr and Isabell (Grant) Mattenlee.
On May 30, 1957, Doug was united in marriage to Georgia Stephens in Kansas City, Missouri. They shared 61 years together at the time she preceded him in death on July 6, 2018.
Doug graduated from Missouri Valley College in Marshall, Missouri with a degree in business. While there, he was a member of the Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity. A year after graduation, he went to work at Ford Motor Company, working in management of their Traffic / Vehicle Shipment department. He worked for Ford for over 30
years until he retired.
He was a life long member of the United Methodist Church. In his later years he attended the Ozark Chapel United Methodist Church. Singing and Music have always been an important part of his life, and he loved being a part of the various church choirs and JAM Band. In the past year, he also had the privilege of signing with the Greater Lake Area Chorale where he loved the challenge of a new singing experience.
Serving others in a voluntary capacity was important to Doug. In his youth, he was an Eagle Scout, Hard Way Mic-O-Say Warrior, spending many summers attending and assisting Scout Camps. His retirement years allowed him the opportunity to serve others to an even greater extent. He discovered a program for Drug Awareness through the Elks Lodge #2705 of Laurie, Missouri. This led to an opportunity to participate with the Elk’s nationwide Drug Awareness program, serving as an Assistant Director, where he received a Presidential Call to Service award.
In 2009, Doug was asked to join a United Nations Drug & Crime committee representing the Americas. Their role was to offer recommendations for the United Nation’s Drug Awareness program goals of the next 10 years. Additionally, he worked with the Morgan County CLEAR Association.
During his years of retirement, he also discovered the art of wood carving, where he found not only a new passion, but a group of friends that became very dear to him.
Doug is survived by his daughters Beth Holder and husband Michael of Kansas City, Missouri and Lora Cunningham of Versailles, Missouri; 5 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife Georgia Mattenlee and parents.
