Steven Chancellor

Obituary of Steven Mark Chancellor

Steven Mark Chancellor died unexpectedly on Sunday, August 16, 2020 after clearing brush at his lake cabin, the place he loved most in the world. He was a friend to all, a spinner of tales, a master storyteller with lightning- quick wit. Born on Groundhog’s Day, February 2, 1964, in Washington D.C. to Robert and Linda Chancellor, Steven was the youngest of four children. His father was a foreign correspondent for Voice of America and the family spent the 60’s and 70’s exploring overseas, living in Thailand, Japan, Kenya, South Africa and Israel. Steven’s outgoing personality thrived in every post. At last count he attended eight schools in twelve years and made lifelong friends at each one, particularly ISK in Nairobi. Steven graduated from Villa Oasis boarding school in Casa Grande, Arizona in 1983 and moved to Texas, where he attended Austin Community College. He loved animals and worked as a veterinary technician for Griffith and Elgin Animal Hospitals in central Texas. He later launched a sales career that suited his “never met a stranger” character, including stints at Microsoft, Harte Hanks, Quad Energy Solutions, and most recently Rhomar Industries of Springfield, Missouri. While in Houston, Steven met Karen Marie Rogers and they were married in 1991. The young couple moved to the Springfield area to reconnect with family but Karen passed away in 2008. Steven filled the void by helping his parents in their retirement, volunteering for Sertoma, and following the Springfield Cardinals. Weekends at the family cabin at the Lake of the Ozarks also helped and he became a master fisherman. Steven was predeceased by his beloved parents, Bob and Linda Chancellor. He is survived by his sister Kimberly Carter of Austin; sister Rue Ellen Chancellor of Phoenix; and brother Craig Chancellor of Villa Rica, Georgia. Other family include Stephen and Kay Chancellor, Sam and Linda Chancellor, and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Lorinda and Justin were special friends who brought sunshine and laughter to his world. Steven’s life will be celebrated at a private family gathering later in the year. He would be honored to have memorials made to Community Christian Church, 1064 N. Business Route 5, Camdenton, Missouri 65020.
