Obituary of William Virgle Wyllie
William “Bill” Virgle Wyllie, age 97, of Lake Ozark, Missouri passed away Wednesday, October 28, 2020 at Osage Beach, Missouri.
Bill was born March 15, 1923 in Marissa, Illinois, the oldest son of Earl and Blanch Ogles Wyllie.
On December 20, 1947, Bill was united in marriage to Shirley Ann McGough. They shared 73 years together at the time of his passing.
William graduated from Marissa High School, Hadley Art School in St. Louis, and miscellaneous art credits from Southern Illinois University.
Bill served in the US Navy during WWII as a Gunners-Mate on the USS Inch Destroyer 146 2nd. He served as the ships Commercial Artist (1942 – 1946).
William is noted throughout southern Illinois and the Missouri Ozarks for his sign painting and pen and ink sketches that can be seen on note cards and published art books. Well after retirement, Bill’s artwork and boat lettering can be seen on the Lake of the Ozarks, in St. Louis, and Kansas. Bill’s hobbies included archology and environmental protection.
Bill is survived by his wife Shirley Wyllie of the home; 3 daughters Jeanne Wyllie Cuddy of Port St. Lucie, Florida, Cindy Wyllie Monerief of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, and Tracey Wyllie Gonnella of Lake Ozarks, Missouri; 5 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; 21 nieces and nephews; and many other relatives and friends.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, 2 sisters, and 1 brother.
Private Graveside Services will be held at a later date at Lake Memorial Gardens in Osage Beach, Missouri.
