Obituary of Edilberto Batara Lorenzo, MD

Edilberto Batara Lorenzo, MD, age 81, died Thursday, November 26, 2020 at Lake Regional Health System in Osage Beach, Missouri. He died of COVID-19 pneumonia in the service of others. He was born April 29, 1939 as the youngest to Sabiniano Lorenzo, a Philippine politician, and Paula Batara-Lorenzo. He attended the University of Saint Tomas in the Philippines, graduating with top honors as an MD candidate. He was an honored ROTC commander during this time. He received American Citizenship, completed residency in Missouri as a child/adolescent psychiatrist through Western Missouri Mental Health Center University Affiliation. He worked in mental health clinics for the indigent with no renumeration while in Kansas City, Missouri. He worked diligently at St. Mary’s Hospital and Swope Ridge Nursing Home in Senior Care. In Missouri, he pioneered the establishment of independent specific units for the special needs of older adults with mental health issues. He was responsible for the successful startup and running of units at Swope Ridge, Lakeside Hospital, Twin Rivers Hospital, and most recently in Springfield, Missouri at Lake Regional Behavioral Health Systems. He provided outpatient services through his corporation New Medico Healthcare Corporation which will transition his patients with little or no enumeration from Medicare or other entities. He was named top Psychiatric Doctor two different years by two different accrediting systems. He married Remedios, Medina, MD, who passed away at a young age from cancer. From this union are three surviving children. He later remarried to Jacolyn Lorenzo. He is survived by his three children from his first marriage, Eddie M. Lorenzo, a lawyer in Kansas City, Missouri, Benjamin M. Lorenzo, a computer hardware specialist in California, and Melanie Krueger, a married Licensed OT in Portland, Oregon. He is also survived by his loving spouse Jacolyn S. Lorenzo, his grandchildren Michel and Karina Krueger, his son-in-law Jeff Krueger, and his 94-year-old sister in the Philippines. My special message to all, remember his friendship and special mentoring to others, his concern for those who had difficulties financially, his friendship and equality to all, his love of family, his honor to his ethnic background, his cultural respect, and his strength of will to fight the COVID-19 pneumonia virus obtained in the care of others until his demise. He was called a man with a mission. Finally, my message to him, I will love you until my own demise as JSL.
