Richard Herdman

Obituary of Richard Earl Herdman

Richard Earl Herdman finished his work in this life on Wednesday, December 16, 2020 peacefully surrounded by his family. Rick was born on March 15, 1961. He was the son of Rose and John Herdman. Rick married Sarah Kay Tatman on September 28, 1979 in Springfield, Tennessee. From this marriage, he had three children: Luke, Heather, and Blake. On Sunday, April 27, 2003, Rick put his faith in Jesus Christ at Heritage Baptist Temple in Lebanon, Missouri. Rick was a hard worker who loved to help others. His hands were rough and stained from work, but his heart was always soft to those in need. He was kind to a fault. At an early age, Rick worked as a plumber for his dad's Roto-Rooter business in Tennessee. After moving to Missouri, he was an employee of Detroit Tool Industries for over 15 years, where his hard work and skill led him to be promoted to a Toolmaker. Though Rick appreciated his job, he was a dreamer, and decided to start his own full-time motorcycle and ATV shop, Westside Cycles. He thoroughly enjoyed that dream for 12 years. The last few years, Rick worked as a mechanic with his close friends, Doug, Clayton, and Ronnie, at Boggs Family Automotive. He worked hard, but he loved to play even harder. Rick enjoyed classic rock, camping, and floating with friends. He had a special talent for making others laugh with his quick wit and - if you were lucky - his hand drawn cartoons and terrible dancing. Rick marveled at the beauty he found in nature, and took pleasure in exploring it with any vehicle he could make suit his plans. (He was even skilled at making a '62 VW Bug float). At family gatherings, Rick was always surrounded by kids because he loved to have fun, and they loved having fun with him. Rick is survived by his mother Rose; wife Carla Foster; ex-wife and special friend Sarah Herdman; his children, Luke and his wife Victoria, Heather Goss and her husband Ken, and Blake Herdman; his grandchildren Samuel, Ashlea, Miri, Emet, Laila, Ari, and Nova; a bonus granddaughter Emma; his brother Randy and sister Rene; his nieces and nephews, and many loving friends. He was preceded in death by his father, his brother Dennis "Butch," his granddaughter, June, and one grand child he never got to meet, Adi. He enjoyed his life with family and friends, and if you were a friend, to Rick, you were family. He was a provider, encourager, and a good man. He will be greatly missed. Graveside Services will be held on Tuesday, December 22, 2020 at 11:00 am at Ashley Blackfoot Cemetery in Lebanon, Missouri. The family will welcome friends for visitation on Tuesday, December 22, 2020 from 9:00 - 10:00 am at Hedges-Scott Funeral Home in Camdenton, Missouri. Memorial donations are suggested to the family.
