Obituary of Julie Ann Schmitt

In the year 2020 we lost many beautiful souls. On December 29, 2020, God took Julie’s hand and led her Home while she slept peacefully next to her loving partner in life, Doug. “She made broken look beautiful and strong look invincible. She walked with the universe on her shoulders and made it look like a pair of wings.” Julie Ann (Wilson) Schmitt was a wonderful woman who was loved, is missed tremendously, and will always be cherished. “JuJi,” as she liked to be called by her grandchildren, was an amazing partner, mother, daughter, sister, friend, and baker of chocolate chip cookies like no other. Julie was a compassionate spirit whose best quality was selflessly caring for others. She and Doug spent the latter half of her life at the Lake of the Ozarks caring for her late parents, Charlie and Janet. She cherished the time they spent together and was a devoted daughter. In her early life, Julie was a dedicated mother to her children, Amanda, Stephen, and Alix. She was married to Thomas Schmitt for 20 years and took great enjoyment running the household while Tom built a successful business. Her children were her pride and joy. She loved spending time with family and friends at their farm riding their horses. Family and friends were Julie’s passion and delight. Her grandchildren were her heart and treasures. Time spent at Grandma JuJi’s house was very special for her grandbabies. Her grandchildren relished playing in the woods, feeding the donkey, hanging out on the covered porch, swimming in the lake, and taking gator rides together. Julie was renowned for her cooking and baking skills. Everyone knew they would have plenty of delicious homemade food to eat while they were in her company. She also loved playing canasta, hiking in the woods, late night bonfires, boating on the pontoon, floating in lake coves, and fishing on the dock. She spent many hours using her green thumb to cultivate beautiful flowers and plants of many kinds. Julie also loved animals and was “mom” to many furry friends (dogs, cats, rabbits, horses) throughout her life. Julie was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Janet Wilson, and is survived by Douglas Johnson; children, Amanda, Stephen (Katherine), Alixandria (Andrew Sanford); grandchildren, Kristin, Ryan, MaryKate, Charlotte, and Henry; siblings, John Wilson and Tina (Wilson) Sredojevich. She also leaves behind numerous loving relatives and friends. Julie was only 60 years young but left a lifetime of memories and will live on in the hearts of those who were lucky enough to love and be loved by her. We will miss our cherished JuJi, who was taken from us too soon. May she be at peace fishing for crappie and soaking in the warm sunlight on the shores of the Lake of the Ozarks. We love and miss you, Mom, and in our hearts you will remain forever young. A Celebration of Life will be held at noon on Saturday, January 9, 2021, at St. Raphael the Archangel Church in St. Louis, Missouri. Do not mourn for Julie, plant a tree or a flower in her memory instead. Dogwood trees were her favorite.
