Steven Haase

Obituary of Steven Joe Haase

Steven Joe Haase, born March 28, 1951, joined his Heavenly Father on February 10, 2021. Steve was born in Hastings, Nebraska to Harold (Pug) & Alice Bayles-Haase. Steve was baptized April 22, 1951 at Zion Lutheran Church. He attended Zion Lutheran School until 8th grade, then attended Hastings High School where he graduated in 1969. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church until 2017 when he transferred his membership to West Lake Christian Church.

Steve married his high school sweetheart in 1970 and had the first of 3 sons. He was drafted in January 1971 during the Vietnam War and was stationed in North Korea in the DMZ until September 1972.

Steve worked for BNSF Railroad for 30+ years and was medically retired in 2005 at the age of 54 due to Macular Degeneration. Steve was a member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers.

Steve was a Master Mason, as well as a member of the Shriners, 33rd Degree Masons, Scottish Rite, and Eastern Star. He served as Worthy Patron in Eastern Star.

Steve served on the County Commission Board in Camden County for Jasper Township for 2 years. He served as Property Manager at West Lake Christian Church, on the Board, attended Connect Sunday school class, and filled in as facilitator when asked, and as diaconate.

Steve came from an exceptionally large family. His father was the youngest of 13 children and his mother was the youngest of 8. His family originated in a town called German Town, Nebraska which is now call Garland, Nebraska. His grandfather owned much of the town until the great depression when the town dwindled away.

Family was everything to Steve: his parents, siblings, cousins’ children. He loved getting together for reunions, 50th wedding anniversaries, you name it, any opportunity to spend time with family. If it involved music that was even better. Music was Steve’s happy place, the louder the better.

Steve is survived by his wife Sherry Haase; their children Lonnie & Shelly Haase (Iowa), Rodney Haase (Nebraska), Bradley Haase (Missouri), Tamera & Donald Ross (Nebraska), Tonya & Billy Seddon (Missouri), and Torina Wiemers; his sisters and brothers-in-law Laura Witte (Nebraska), Diane Haase-Cranston & KC Cranston (Nevada), Sue & Joe Frink (Nebraska), Tamara & Dale Gasparick (Wisconsin); many nieces and nephews; 15 grandchildren; and 6 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father; 4 grandchildren Taylor Haase, Jade Holle, Syler Haase, and Morgan Haase; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
