Obituary of Elizabeth Vincent Dickerson

Elizabeth “Machir” Vincent Dickerson, age 87, passed away in Hot Springs, Arkansas on February 28, 2021. She was born on March 12, 1933 in Camdenton, Missouri. She was a graduate of Camdenton Schools and had the honor of being named the very first Queen of Camdenton’s Annual Dogwood Festival in 1951. During her teenage years, Machir also joined the Community Christian Church in Camdenton, Missouri.

In 1951 she married Jack Dickerson, and they were excitedly anticipating their 70^th anniversary in June of this year. They had four sons, Jim, Terry, Randy and Rob.

Machir’s primary focus centered on raising her four sons and caring for her family. Unbeknownst to most, she was also integral in her and Jack’s businesses. She was the subscription manager of their Reveille and Lake Sun-Leader newspapers for several years. Even more importantly, she was a great judge of character. Her instinct in these matters proved a valuable asset to their businesses’ endeavors.

Machir’s true joy in life came from her family and personal interactions. She loved to spend time with her grandkids and frequently told stories about them. In the later years of her life, her dog Samson was the benefactor of much of her love and attention. She was blessed with many friends with whom she spent many hours playing bridge, traveling and attending school activities with their children. One of her favorite activities was spending hours at Dorothy Eidson’s house sipping tea and shooting the breeze. Machir and Jack shared the passion of owning thoroughbred race horses that continues to this day. In 2008 they were named the Louisiana Breeder of the Year. Their most successful horse was Superior Storm who was named Louisiana’s Horse of the Year once and named Louisiana’s Fillie of the Year three times. Superior gave them great memories with family and friends during her racing career.

Machir is survived by her loving husband Jack; son Randy Dickerson and wife Carolyn Dickerson;son Rob Dickerson; daughter-in-law Sharon Dickerson; fur baby Samson; sister Mary Eldridge; 8 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents Ralph and Lucille Vincent; sons Jim Dickerson and Terry Dickerson, grandchild Christopher Dickerson and sister Pat Ross.

Visitation will be held at 11 am on Saturday, March 6^th at The John Bearden Auditorium in the Camdenton Middle School, with the celebration of her life to follow at 12 pm. Machir will be interred at Laughlin Cemetery immediately following the services. Due to COVID, the Family requests the wearing of masks and a respect of social distancing guidelines.
