Obituary of Ethel June Miller Neis

Ethel June Miller Neis was born in 1923 on the family farm near Tipton, Missouri. She was one of seven children born to Arble and Effie Huffman Miller. She grew up in the same area and attended Clark school, a one-room elementary school. She then attended Tipton High School where she was on the basketball and tennis teams. She graduated as valedictorian of her class.

After high school, she was accepted at Central Missouri State University. While there, she also played on the tennis team. It was while in school there that she decided to enter St. Luke’s Hospital School of Nursing in Kansas City, Missouri. She was accepted in the program and graduated as a registered nurse in 1943. She remained at St. Luke’s Hospital for several years as a supervisor of South Four floor. After some years, she was accepted at Pittsburg State University in the BSN program where she received her BSN degree. She worked in the nursing field for many years in her husband’s medical clinic and doing postgraduate studies.

In 1943, she married Harry B. Neis, MD. They spent many years in Olathe, Kansas, where they raised their family of three boys and had a very busy medical practice.

When the time came for retirement, June persuaded her husband to live at the beautiful Lake of the Ozarks. It was here that they spent their years together boating, swimming, playing tennis and always helping where and when they were needed.

June was preceded in death by her husband Harry B. Neis, MD; two sons, Larry Neis and Doctor Miles D. Neis; brothers, Charles, Frank, Thomas, David, and Robert; and one sister, Martha. Survivors include two sons, H. B. Neis and Doctor Thomas R. Neis and wife, Patty; daughter-in-law Neenah Neis; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
