Obituary of Richard Morris

Richard Morris age 51, of Waynesville, Missouri passed away Saturday, March 27, 2021 at Phelps County Regional Hospital in Rolla, Missouri.

Richard was born on December 29, 1969 in Iowa City, Iowa, the son of James Richard and Phyllis Ilene (Brown) Morris.

On July 21, 2013 in Bedford, Iowa, he was married to Stephanie (Wright) Morris. They shared over 5 years of marriage before Stephanie's passing on April 6, 2019.

Richard worked as an aluminum welder after completing his term in the Navy as an Aviation structural mechanic. Richard was generally a very quiet person but when he was in the mood to talk, he would chat your ear off for sure. He loved spending time outdoors swimming, camping, spending time with family, playing cards, and watching sports games. His family, especially his grandchildren meant everything to him. 

One of the family’s fondest memories of Richard was his competitive spirit in the things he was passionate about. 

Richard is survived by children Timothy Sweat and Joshua Sweat both of Albany, Missouri, Julie Sweat of Hannibal, Missouri, Tiffany Stapleton and husband Joshua of Waynesville, Missouri; and 8 grandchildren Derick, Hailey, Caidyn, Lillian, Braxton, Angel, Jaden, and Luna. He is also survived by his mother Phyllis Hood of Camdenton, Missouri; his brothers James Richard Morris Jr. of Osceola, Iowa, and Vilas Morris and wife Patty Morris of Urbandale, Iowa; sisters Stacy Gebhardt and husband Larry Gebhardt of North English, Iowa, Teresa Thompson and husband Ron Thompson of Hopkins, Missouri, and Ilene Owens of Summit, Arkansas.

He was proceeded in death by his father James Richard Morris and beloved wife Stephanie Morris.

Graveside Services with full military honors will be held Friday, April 2, 2021 at 3:00 pm at Missouri Veterans Cemetery - Ft. Leonard Wood in Waynesville, Missouri.
