Obituary of Sadie Virginia Van Hoose Oliver

Sadie Virginia Van Hoose Oliver, age 91, passed away after surgery on Saturday, May 1, 2021 at her daughter’s home in Raymore, Missouri. She was born June 25, 1929, in Naples, Texas, the daughter of Thomas Jefferson and Lilian Elizabeth (Hill) Van Hoose. She married Hollis Leon Carpenter, who passed away in March of 1968. Sadie and Hollis had two children, Janice Elizabeth and Jimmy Leon Carpenter.

She graduated from Texas High School in the 1960s fulfilling her desire of a high school education. The family lived near DeKalb, Texas, Lubbock, Texas, and finally in Texarkana, Texas. After the death of her husband, Hollis, she was married to Edward Lee Oliver and the couple moved to their family land near Simms, Texas where they raised cattle, chickens, a large garden and enjoyed the country life. She loved Blue Grass/Gospel music and could often be found attending weekend jam sessions with friends and family.

After Eddie’s death in 2005, she moved to Roach, Missouri and then to Raymore, Missouri to be near her daughter Janice.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son Jimmy, who passed away with cancer on November 19, 2012, and her daughter Janice, who passed away on March 29, 2021.

Sadie was a life-long active member of the Community of Christ Church, headquartered in Independence, Missouri (cofchrist.org).

She is survived by three children Mike Oliver and Mark Oliver of Texas, and daughter Sue Oliver Brock of Madison, Alabama; ten grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and a few great-great-grandchildren.

She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She loved to camp, sew, quilt, and live a quiet life amid friends.

It is her wish that she be buried next to her husband, Eddie Oliver, at the Wards Creek Cemetery in Bowie County, Texas. A service of interment will take place on Saturday, June 5, 2021.

She is already greatly missed by family and friends.
